بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
83:1 وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
83:1

Ruin is for the defrauders. (Those who measure less.)
83:2 ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ
83:2
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Those who when they take the measure from others, take it in full!
83:3 وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ
83:3

Whereas when they give others after measuring or weighing, they give them less!
83:4 أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ
83:4

What! Do they not expect that they will be raised?
83:5 لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
83:5
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
(To be raised) for a Great Day?
83:6 يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
83:6

The day when everyone will stand before the Lord Of The Creation.
83:7 كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ
83:7
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Indeed, the record of the disbelievers is in the lowest place, the Sijjeen.
83:8 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ
83:8
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is!
83:9 كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
83:9
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
The record is a sealed text.
83:10 وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
83:10
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Ruin is for the deniers on that day!
83:11 ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
83:11
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Those who deny the Day of Justice.
83:12 وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
83:12
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel.
83:13 إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
83:13
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!”
83:14 كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
83:14
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Not at all – but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts.
83:15 كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ
83:15
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day.
83:16 ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
83:16
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Then indeed they have to enter hell.
83:17 ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
83:17
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.”
83:18 كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ
83:18

Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin.
83:19 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ

Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And what do you know what the Illiyoon are!
83:20 كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

The record is a sealed text.
83:21 يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
83:21
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Which is witnessed by the close ones.
83:22 إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ
83:22
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Indeed the virtuous are in serenity.
83:23 عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
83:23
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
On thrones, watching.
83:24 تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
83:24
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces.
83:25 يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ
83:25
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed.
83:26 خِتَـٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ

Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Its seal is upon musk; and for this should those who crave be eager.
83:27 وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ

Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And it is mixed with Tasneem.
83:28 عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
83:28
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah.
83:29 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ

Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the believers.
83:30 وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ
83:30
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes.
83:31 وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ
83:31

And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing.
83:32 وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ
83:32
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.”
83:33 وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـٰفِظِينَ

Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them.
83:34 فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ
83:34

So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers.
83:35 عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
83:35

On high thrones, watching.
83:36 هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ
83:36

Did not the disbelievers get repaid for what they used to do?
