بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

96:1 ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ
96:1

Recite in the name of your Lord Who created,

96:2 خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
96:2
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
created man from a clot of congealed blood.

96:3 ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ

Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous,

96:4 ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ
96:4
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
Who taught by the pen,

96:5 عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
96:5
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
taught man what he did not know.

96:6 كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ
96:6
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
Nay, surely man transgresses;

96:7 أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ
96:7

for he believes himself to be self-sufficient.

96:8 إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ
96:8
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
Surely to your Lord is your return.

96:9 أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ
96:9

Did you see him who forbids

96:10 عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ

a servant (of Allah) when he prays?

96:11 أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ

Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way,

96:12 أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ

Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
and enjoins piety?

96:13 أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
96:13

Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)?

96:14 أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
96:14

Does he not know that Allah sees everything?

96:15 كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ
96:15
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock;

96:16 نَاصِيَةٍ كَـٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ
96:16
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
by the lying forelock steeped in sin.

96:17 فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ
96:17
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
So let him summon his helpmates;

96:18 سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ
96:18
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
We too shall summon the guards of Hell.

96:19 كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩
96:19
Abul Ala Maududi (English) :
No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord).
