بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
90:1
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
90:1
No, I swear by this country (Mecca), - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:2
وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
90:2
and you are a lodger in this country. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:3
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ
90:3
And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:4
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ
90:4
We created the human in fatigue. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:5
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ
90:5
Does he think that none has power over him! - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:6
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا
90:6
He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:7
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
90:7
Does he think that none has observed him? - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:8
أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ
90:8
Have We not given him two eyes, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:9
وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ
90:9
a tongue, and two lips, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:10
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ
90:10
and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:11
فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ
90:11
Yet he has not scaled the height. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:12
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ
90:12
What could let you know what the height is! - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:13
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
90:13
(It is) the freeing of a slave, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:14
أَوْ إِطْعَـٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ
90:14
the giving of food upon the day of hunger - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:15
يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ
90:15
to an orphaned relative - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:16
أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ
90:16
or to a needy person in distress; - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:17
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ
90:17
so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:18
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
90:18
Those are the Companions of the Right. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:19
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
90:19
But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
90:20
عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ
90:20
with the Fire closed above them. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
