Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
75:1
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
75:1
Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:2
وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
75:2
and nay, I swear by the self-reproaching soul! - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:3
أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ
75:3
Does man imagine that We will not be able to bring his bones together again? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:4
بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ
75:4
Yes indeed; We have the power to remould even his finger-tips. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:5
بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ
75:5
But man desires to persist in his evil ways. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:6
يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
75:6
He asks: “When will the Day of Resurrection be?” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:7
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ
75:7
When the sight is dazed, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:8
وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ
75:8
and the moon is eclipsed, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:9
وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ
75:9
and the sun and the moon are joined together, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:10
يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ
75:10
on that Day will man say: “Whither the refuge?” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:11
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
75:11
No, there is no refuge. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:12
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ
75:12
With your Lord alone will be the retreat that Day. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:13
يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
75:13
On that Day will man be apprised of his deeds, both the earlier and the later. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:14
بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌ
75:14
But lo, man is well aware of himself, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:15
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
75:15
even though he might make up excuses. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:16
لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ
75:16
(O Prophet), do not stir your tongue hastily (to commit the Revelation to memory). - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:17
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
75:17
Surely it is for Us to have you commit it to memory and to recite it. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:18
فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ
75:18
And so when We recite it, follow its recitation attentively; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:19
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ
75:19
then it will be for Us to explain it. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:20
كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ
75:20
Nay; the truth is that you love ardently (the good of this world) that can be obtained hastily, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:21
وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
75:21
and are oblivious of the Hereafter. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:22
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ
75:22
Some faces on that Day will be fresh and resplendent, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:23
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ
75:23
and will be looking towards their Lord; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:24
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ
75:24
and some faces on that Day will be gloomy, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:25
تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ
75:25
believing that a crushing calamity is about to strike them. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:26
كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ
75:26
Nay; when a man's soul reaches up to the throat, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:27
وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ
75:27
and it is said: “Is there any enchanter who can step forward and help (by his chanting)?” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:28
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ
75:28
and he realises that the hour of parting is come, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:29
وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ
75:29
and calf is inter-twined with calf. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:30
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ
75:30
On that Day you will be driven to your Lord. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:31
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
75:31
But he did not verify the Truth, nor did he observe Prayer; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:32
وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
75:32
on the contrary, he gave the lie to the Truth and turned his back upon it, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:33
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
75:33
then he went back to his kinsfolk, elated with pride. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:34
أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
75:34
This (attitude) is worthy of you, altogether worthy; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:35
ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ
75:35
again, it is worthy of you, altogether worthy. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:36
أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى
75:36
Does man think that he will be left alone, unquestioned? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:37
أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ
75:37
Was he not a drop of ejaculated semen, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:38
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
75:38
then he became a clot, and then Allah made it into a living body and proportioned its parts, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:39
فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
75:39
and then He made of him a pair, male and female? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
75:40
أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
75:40
Does He, then, not have the power to bring back the dead to life? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
