Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
70:1
سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ
70:1
A questioner questioned the imminent torment. - Talal Itani (English)
70:2
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ
70:2
For the disbelievers; none can repel it. - Talal Itani (English)
70:3
مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
70:3
From God, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. - Talal Itani (English)
70:4
تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
70:4
Unto Him the angels and the Spirit ascend on a Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. - Talal Itani (English)
70:5
فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
70:5
So be patient, with sweet patience. - Talal Itani (English)
70:6
إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا
70:6
They see it distant. - Talal Itani (English)
70:7
وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا
70:7
But We see it near. - Talal Itani (English)
70:8
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ
70:8
On the Day when the sky will be like molten brass. - Talal Itani (English)
70:9
وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ
70:9
And the mountains will be like tufted wool. - Talal Itani (English)
70:10
وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا
70:10
No friend will care about his friend. - Talal Itani (English)
70:11
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ
70:11
They will be shown each other. The criminal wishes he would be redeemed from the punishment of that Day by his children. - Talal Itani (English)
70:12
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
70:12
And his spouse, and his brother. - Talal Itani (English)
70:13
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ
70:13
And his family that sheltered him. - Talal Itani (English)
70:14
وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
70:14
And everyone on earth, in order to save him. - Talal Itani (English)
70:15
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
70:15
By no means! It is a Raging Fire. - Talal Itani (English)
70:16
نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ
70:16
It strips away the scalps. - Talal Itani (English)
70:17
تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
70:17
It invites him who once turned his back and fled. - Talal Itani (English)
70:18
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
70:18
And accumulated and hoarded. - Talal Itani (English)
70:19
۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
70:19
Man was created restless. - Talal Itani (English)
70:20
إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا
70:20
Touched by adversity, he is fretful. - Talal Itani (English)
70:21
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا
70:21
Touched by good, he is ungenerous. - Talal Itani (English)
70:22
إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
70:22
Except the prayerful. - Talal Itani (English)
70:23
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ
70:23
Those who are constant at their prayers. - Talal Itani (English)
70:24
وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ
70:24
And those in whose wealth is a rightful share. - Talal Itani (English)
70:25
لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
70:25
For the beggar and the deprived. - Talal Itani (English)
70:26
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
70:26
And those who affirm the Day of Judgment. - Talal Itani (English)
70:27
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
70:27
And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. - Talal Itani (English)
70:28
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ
70:28
Their Lord’s punishment is not to be taken for granted. - Talal Itani (English)
70:29
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ
70:29
And those who guard their chastity. - Talal Itani (English)
70:30
إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
70:30
Except from their spouses or those living under their control, for then they are free of blame. - Talal Itani (English)
70:31
فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
70:31
But whoever seeks to go beyond that—these are the transgressors. - Talal Itani (English)
70:32
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
70:32
And those who honor their trusts and their pledges. - Talal Itani (English)
70:33
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ
70:33
And those who stand by their testimonies. - Talal Itani (English)
70:34
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
70:34
And those who are dedicated to their prayers. - Talal Itani (English)
70:35
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ
70:35
These will be honored in Gardens. - Talal Itani (English)
70:36
فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
70:36
What is with those who disbelieve, stretching their necks towards you. - Talal Itani (English)
70:37
عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
70:37
From the right, and from the left, banding together? - Talal Itani (English)
70:38
أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ
70:38
Is every one of them aspiring to be admitted into a Garden of Bliss? - Talal Itani (English)
70:39
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
70:39
No indeed! We created them from what they know. - Talal Itani (English)
70:40
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
70:40
I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests, that We are Able. - Talal Itani (English)
70:41
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
70:41
To replace them with better than they, and We are not to be outdone. - Talal Itani (English)
70:42
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
70:42
So leave them to blunder and play, until they meet their Day which they are promised. - Talal Itani (English)
70:43
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ
70:43
The Day when they will emerge from the tombs in a rush, as though they were hurrying towards a target. - Talal Itani (English)
70:44
خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ
70:44
Their eyes cast down; overwhelmed by humiliation. This is the Day which they were promised. - Talal Itani (English)
