Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
70:1
سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ
70:1
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:2
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ
70:2
The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:3
مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
70:3
From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:4
تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
70:4
To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:5
فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
70:5
Therefore endure with a goodly patience. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:6
إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا
70:6
Surely they think it to be far off, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:7
وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا
70:7
And We see it nigh. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:8
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ
70:8
On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:9
وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ
70:9
And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:10
وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا
70:10
And friend shall not ask of friend - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:11
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ
70:11
(Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:12
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
70:12
And his wife and his brother - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:13
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ
70:13
And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:14
وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
70:14
And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:15
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
70:15
By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:16
نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ
70:16
Dragging by the head, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:17
تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
70:17
It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:18
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
70:18
And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:19
۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
70:19
Surely man is created of a hasty temperament - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:20
إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا
70:20
Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:21
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا
70:21
And niggardly when good befalls him - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:22
إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
70:22
Except those who pray, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:23
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ
70:23
Those who are constant at their prayer - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:24
وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ
70:24
And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:25
لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
70:25
For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:26
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
70:26
And those who accept the truth of the judgment day - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:27
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
70:27
And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:28
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ
70:28
Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:29
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ
70:29
And those who guard their private parts, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:30
إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
70:30
Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:31
فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
70:31
But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:32
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
70:32
And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:33
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ
70:33
And those who are upright in their testimonies, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:34
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
70:34
And those who keep a guard on their prayer, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:35
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ
70:35
Those shall be in gardens, honored. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:36
فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
70:36
But what is the matter with those who disbelieve that they hasten on around you, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:37
عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
70:37
On the right hand and on the left, in sundry parties? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:38
أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ
70:38
Does every man of them desire that he should be made to enter the garden of bliss? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:39
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
70:39
By no means! Surely We have created them of what they know. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:40
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
70:40
But nay! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests that We are certainly able - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:41
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
70:41
To bring instead (others) better than them, and We shall not be overcome. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:42
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
70:42
Therefore leave them alone to go on with the false discourses and to sport until they come face to face with that day of theirs with which they are threatened; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:43
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ
70:43
The day on which they shall come forth from their graves in haste, as if they were hastening on to a goal, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
70:44
خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ
70:44
Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the day which they were threatened with. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
