بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
89:1
وَٱلْفَجْرِ
89:1
By oath of the (particular) dawn. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
89:2
And by oath of ten nights. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:3
وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ
89:3
And by oath of the even and the odd. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:4
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
89:4
And by oath of the night when it recedes - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:5
هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ
89:5
Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:6
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
89:6
Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:7
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ
89:7
(And) the tall giants of Iram? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:8
ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
89:8
Like whom no one else was born in the cities. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:9
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ
89:9
And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:10
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
89:10
And with Firaun, who used to crucify. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:11
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
89:11
Those who rebelled in the cities, - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:12
فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ
89:12
And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:13
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
89:13
Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:14
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ
89:14
Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:15
فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ
89:15
So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:16
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ
89:16
And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:17
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ
89:17
Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:18
وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
89:18
And do not urge one another to feed the needy. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:19
وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا
89:19
And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:20
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
89:20
And you harbour intense love for wealth. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:21
كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
89:21
Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:22
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
89:22
And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:23
وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ
89:23
And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:24
يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى
89:24
He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:25
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
89:25
So on that day, no one punishes like He does! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:26
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
89:26
And no one binds like He does! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:27
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
89:27
O the contented soul! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:28
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
89:28
Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:29
فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى
89:29
Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
89:30
وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى
89:30
And come into My Paradise! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
