بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

88:1 هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ
88:1 Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:2 وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ
88:2 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:3 عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
88:3 be toiling and worn-out; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:4 تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
88:4 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:5 تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ
88:5 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:6 لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:7 لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ
88:7 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:8 وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
88:8 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:9 لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
88:9 well-pleased with their striving. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:10 فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
88:10 They will be in a lofty Garden - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:11 لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً
88:11 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:12 فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
88:12 In it there shall be a flowing spring, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:13 فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
88:13 and couches raised high, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:14 وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
88:14 and goblets laid out, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:15 وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
88:15 and cushions arrayed in rows, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:16 وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
88:16 and rich carpets levelled out. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:17 أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
88:17 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:18 وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18 And the sky: how it was raised high? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:19 وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
88:19 And the mountains: how they were fixed? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:20 وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
88:20 And the earth: how it was spread out? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:21 فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
88:21 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:22 لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
88:22 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:23 إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
88:23 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:24 فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
88:24 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:25 إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25 Surely to Us is their return; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

88:26 ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
88:26 and then it is for Us to call them to account. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
