بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
88:1
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ
88:1
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:2
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ
88:2
(Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:3
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
88:3
Laboring, toiling, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:4
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
88:4
Entering into burning fire, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:5
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ
88:5
Made to drink from a boiling spring. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:6
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6
They shall have no food but of thorns, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:7
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ
88:7
Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:8
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
88:8
(Other) faces on that day shall be happy, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:9
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
88:9
Well-pleased because of their striving, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:10
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
88:10
In a lofty garden, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:11
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً
88:11
Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:12
فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
88:12
Therein is a fountain flowing, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:13
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
88:13
Therein are thrones raised high, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:14
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
88:14
And drinking-cups ready placed, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
88:15
And cushions set in a row, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:16
وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
88:16
And carpets spread out. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
88:17
Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:18
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18
And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:19
وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
88:19
And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:20
وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
88:20
And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:21
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
88:21
Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:22
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
88:22
You are not a watcher over them; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
88:23
But whoever turns back and disbelieves, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
88:24
Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:25
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25
Surely to Us is their turning back, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
88:26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
88:26
Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
