Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
88:1
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ
88:1
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:2
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ
88:2
On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:3
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
88:3
labouring, weary, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:4
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
88:4
they shall enter a burning Fire - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:5
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ
88:5
and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:6
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6
they shall have no food but thorns, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:7
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ
88:7
which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:8
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
88:8
Some faces on that Day will be radiant, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:9
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
88:9
well pleased with the result of their striving, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:10
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
88:10
in a sublime garden, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:11
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً
88:11
where they will hear no idle talk, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:12
فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
88:12
with a flowing spring, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:13
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
88:13
raised couches, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:14
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
88:14
and goblets set at hand, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
88:15
cushions ranged, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:16
وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
88:16
and carpets spread out. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
88:17
Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:18
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18
and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:19
وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
88:19
and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:20
وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
88:20
and on the earth, how it is spread out? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:21
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
88:21
So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:22
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
88:22
you are not their keeper. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
88:23
But whoever turns back and denies the truth, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
88:24
will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:25
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25
Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
88:26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
88:26
Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
