Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
83:1
وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
83:1
Woe to the defrauders, who use short measures, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:2
ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ
83:2
who, when they measure [a commodity bought] from the people, take the full measure, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:3
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ
83:3
but diminish when they measure or weigh for them. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:4
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ
83:4
Do they not know that they will be resurrected - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:5
لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
83:5
on a tremendous day, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:6
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
83:6
a day when mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:7
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ
83:7
Indeed, the record of the vicious is in Sijjeen. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:8
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ
83:8
And what will show you what is Sijjeen? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:9
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
83:9
It is a written record. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:10
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
83:10
Woe to the deniers on that day, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:11
ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
83:11
who deny the Day of Retribution; - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:12
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
83:12
and none denies it except every sinful transgressor. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:13
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
83:13
When Our signs are recited to him, he says, ‘Myths of the ancients!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:14
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
83:14
No, that is not the case! Rather, their hearts have been sullied by what they have been earning. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:15
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ
83:15
Indeed, they will be alienated from their Lord on that day. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:16
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
83:16
Afterward they will enter hell, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:17
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
83:17
then told, ‘This is what you used to deny!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:18
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ
83:18
Indeed, the record of the pious is in Illeeyun. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:19
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ
83:19
And what will show you what is Illeeyun? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:20
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
83:20
It is a written record, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:21
يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
83:21
witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:22
إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ
83:22
The pious shall be amid bliss, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:23
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
83:23
observing, [as they recline] on couches. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:24
تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
83:24
You will perceive in their faces the freshness of bliss. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:25
يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ
83:25
They will be served with a sealed pure wine, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:26
خِتَـٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ
83:26
whose seal is musk—for such let the viers vie— - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:27
وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ
83:27
and whose seasoning is from Tasneem, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:28
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
83:28
a spring where those brought near [to Allah] drink. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:29
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ
83:29
Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the faithful, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:30
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ
83:30
and when they passed them by they would wink at each other, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:31
وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ
83:31
and when they returned to their folks they would return amused, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:32
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ
83:32
and when they saw them they would say, ‘Indeed those are the astray!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:33
وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـٰفِظِينَ
83:33
Though they were not sent to watch over them. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:34
فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ
83:34
So today the faithful will laugh at the faithless, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:35
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
83:35
observing from their couches: - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
83:36
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ
83:36
Have the faithless been requited for what they used to do? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
