بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
83:1
وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
83:1
Woe to the defrauders. - Talal Itani (English)
83:2
ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ
83:2
Those who, when they take a measure from people, they take in full. - Talal Itani (English)
83:3
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ
83:3
But when they measure or weigh to others, they cheat. - Talal Itani (English)
83:4
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ
83:4
Do these not know that they will be resurrected? - Talal Itani (English)
83:5
لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
83:5
For a Great Day? - Talal Itani (English)
83:6
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
83:6
The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? - Talal Itani (English)
83:7
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ
83:7
Not at all. The record of the wicked is in Sijjeen. - Talal Itani (English)
83:8
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ
83:8
But how can you know what Sijjeen is? - Talal Itani (English)
83:9
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
83:9
A numerical book. - Talal Itani (English)
83:10
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
83:10
Woe on that Day to the deniers. - Talal Itani (English)
83:11
ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
83:11
Those who deny the Day of Reckoning. - Talal Itani (English)
83:12
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
83:12
But none denies it except the sinful aggressor. - Talal Itani (English)
83:13
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
83:13
When Our revelations are recited to him, he says, “Legends of the ancients.” - Talal Itani (English)
83:14
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
83:14
Not at all. Their hearts have become corroded by what they used to earn. - Talal Itani (English)
83:15
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ
83:15
Not at all. On that Day, they will be screened from their Lord. - Talal Itani (English)
83:16
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
83:16
Then they will roast in Hell. - Talal Itani (English)
83:17
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
83:17
Then it will be said, “This is what you used to deny.” - Talal Itani (English)
83:18
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ
83:18
No indeed; the record of the righteous is in Elliyyeen. - Talal Itani (English)
83:19
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ
83:19
But how can you know what Elliyyoon is? - Talal Itani (English)
83:20
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ
83:20
A numerical book. - Talal Itani (English)
83:21
يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
83:21
Witnessed by those brought near. - Talal Itani (English)
83:22
إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ
83:22
Indeed, the righteous will be amid bliss. - Talal Itani (English)
83:23
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
83:23
On thrones, looking on. - Talal Itani (English)
83:24
تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
83:24
You will recognize on their faces the radiance of bliss. - Talal Itani (English)
83:25
يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ
83:25
They will be given to drink a sealed wine. - Talal Itani (English)
83:26
خِتَـٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ
83:26
Whose seal is musk—this is what competitors should compete for. - Talal Itani (English)
83:27
وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ
83:27
Its mixture is of Tasneem. - Talal Itani (English)
83:28
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
83:28
A spring from which those brought near drink. - Talal Itani (English)
83:29
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ
83:29
Those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. - Talal Itani (English)
83:30
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ
83:30
And when they passed by them, they would wink at one another. - Talal Itani (English)
83:31
وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ
83:31
And when they went back to their families, they would go back exulting. - Talal Itani (English)
83:32
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ
83:32
And if they saw them, they would say, “These people are lost.” - Talal Itani (English)
83:33
وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـٰفِظِينَ
83:33
Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. - Talal Itani (English)
83:34
فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ
83:34
But on that Day, those who believed will laugh at the unbelievers. - Talal Itani (English)
83:35
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
83:35
On luxurious furnishings, looking on. - Talal Itani (English)
83:36
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ
83:36
Have the unbelievers been repaid for what they used to do? - Talal Itani (English)
