Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
79:1
وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًا
79:1
By those [angels] who wrest [the soul] violently, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:2
وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًا
79:2
by those who draw [it] out gently, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:3
وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًا
79:3
by those who swim smoothly, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:4
فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًا
79:4
by those who, racing, take the lead, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:5
فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا
79:5
by those who direct the affairs [of creatures]: - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:6
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ
79:6
the day when the Quaker quakes - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:7
تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ
79:7
and is followed by the Successor, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:8
قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ
79:8
hearts will be trembling on that day, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:9
أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌ
79:9
bearing a humbled look. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:10
يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ
79:10
They will say, ‘Are we being returned to our earlier state? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:11
أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةً
79:11
What, even after we have been decayed bones?!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:12
قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ
79:12
They will say, ‘This is, then, a ruinous return!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:13
فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ
79:13
Yet it will be only a single shout, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:14
فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ
79:14
and behold, they will be awake. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:15
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
79:15
Did you receive the story of Moses, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:16
إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
79:16
when his Lord called out to him in the holy valley of Tuwa? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:17
ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
79:17
[And said,] ‘Go to Pharaoh, for indeed he has rebelled, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:18
فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ
79:18
and say, ‘‘Would you purify yourself? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:19
وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ
79:19
I will guide you to your Lord, that you may fear [Him]?’’ ’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:20
فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
79:20
Then he showed him the greatest sign. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:21
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ
79:21
But he denied, and disobeyed. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:22
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ
79:22
Then he turned back, walking swiftly, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:23
فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ
79:23
and gathered [the people] and proclaimed, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:24
فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
79:24
saying, ‘I am your exalted lord!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:25
فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
79:25
So Allah seized him with the punishment of this life and the Hereafter. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:26
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ
79:26
There is indeed a moral in that for someone who fears! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:27
ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَا
79:27
Is your creation more prodigious or that of the heaven He has built? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:28
رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا
79:28
He raised its vault and fashioned it, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:29
وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا
79:29
and darkened its night, and brought forth its forenoon. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:30
وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ
79:30
Thereafter He spread out the earth, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:31
أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا
79:31
brought forth from it its water and pastures, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:32
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا
79:32
setting firm the mountains, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:33
مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ
79:33
as a [place of] sustenance for you and your livestock. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:34
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
79:34
When the Greatest Catastrophe befalls - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:35
يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ
79:35
—the day when man will remember his endeavours - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:36
وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ
79:36
and hell is brought into view for those who can see— - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:37
فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ
79:37
as for him who has been rebellious - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:38
وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
79:38
and preferred the life of this world, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:39
فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ
79:39
his refuge will indeed be hell. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:40
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ
79:40
But as for him who is awed to stand before his Lord and restrains his soul from [following] desires, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:41
فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ
79:41
his refuge will indeed be paradise. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:42
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا
79:42
They ask you concerning the Hour, “When will it set in, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:43
فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآ
79:43
considering your frequent mention of it?” - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:44
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ
79:44
Its outcome is with your Lord. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:45
إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا
79:45
You are only a warner for those who are afraid it. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
79:46
كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا
79:46
The day they see it, it shall be as if they had not stayed [in the world] except for an evening or forenoon. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
