بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

79:1 وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًا
79:1 By those (angels) that pluck out the soul from depths, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:2 وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًا
79:2 and gently take it away; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:3 وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًا
79:3 and by those that speedily glide along (the cosmos), - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:4 فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًا
79:4 and vie with the others (in carrying out their Lord's behests); - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:5 فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا
79:5 and then manage the affairs of the Universe (according to their Lord's commands). - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:6 يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ
79:6 The Day when the quaking will cause a violent convulsion, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:7 تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ
79:7 and will be followed by another quaking. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:8 قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ
79:8 On that Day some hearts shall tremble (with fright), - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:9 أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌ
79:9 and their eyes shall be downcast with dread. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:10 يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ
79:10 They say: “Shall we indeed be restored to life, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:11 أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةً
79:11 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:12 قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ
79:12 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:13 فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ
79:13 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:14 فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ
79:14 and lo, they will all be in the open plain. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:15 هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
79:15 Has Moses' story reached you? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:16 إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
79:16 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:17 ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
79:17 and directed him: “Go to Pharaoh, he has rebelled, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:18 فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ
79:18 and say to him: 'Are you willing to be purified, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:19 وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ
79:19 that I may direct you to your Lord and then you hold Him in awe?'” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:20 فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
79:20 Then Moses (went to Pharaoh and) showed him the Great Sign; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:21 فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ
79:21 but he denied it as false and disobeyed, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:22 ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ
79:22 and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:23 فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ
79:23 and gathered his people and declared: - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:24 فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
79:24 “I am the supreme lord of you all.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:25 فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
79:25 Thereupon Allah seized him for the chastisement of the World to Come as well as of the present. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:26 إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ
79:26 Surely there is a great lesson in it for whoever would fear (Allah). - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:27 ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَا
79:27 Is it harder to create you or the heaven? But Allah built it, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:28 رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا
79:28 and raised its vault high and proportioned it; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:29 وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا
79:29 and covered its night with darkness and brought forth from it its day; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:30 وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ
79:30 and thereafter spread out the earth, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:31 أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا
79:31 and brought out of it its water and its pasture, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:32 وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا
79:32 and firmly fixed in it mountains; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:33 مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ
79:33 all this as provision for you and your cattle. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:34 فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
79:34 But when the great calamity will come about - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:35 يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ
79:35 on the Day when man will recall all his strivings, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:36 وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ
79:36 and Hell will be brought in sight for anyone to see: - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:37 فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ
79:37 then he who transgressed - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:38 وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
79:38 and preferred the life of this world, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:39 فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ
79:39 most surely his abode shall be Hell. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:40 وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ
79:40 But he who feared to stand before his Lord, and restrained himself from evil desires, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:41 فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ
79:41 most surely his abode shall be Paradise. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:42 يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا
79:42 They ask you about the Hour: “When will it be?” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:43 فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآ
79:43 What concern do you have to speak about that? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:44 إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ
79:44 Its knowledge rests with your Lord. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:45 إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا
79:45 You are only a warner to him who has a fear of it. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

79:46 كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا
79:46 On the Day they see it, they will feel as though they had stayed (in the grave) no more than one evening or one morning. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
