بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
78:1
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
78:1
What are they questioning each other about? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
78:2
About the great tidings! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:3
ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ
78:3
Regarding which they hold different views. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:4
كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
78:4
Surely yes, they will soon come to know! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:5
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
78:5
Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:6
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا
78:6
Did We not make the earth a bed? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:7
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا
78:7
And the mountains as pegs? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:8
وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا
78:8
And it is We who created you in pairs. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:9
وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا
78:9
And made your sleep a rest. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:10
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا
78:10
And made the night a cover. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:11
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا
78:11
And made the day for seeking livelihood. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:12
وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا
78:12
And built seven strong roofs above you. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:13
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا
78:13
And have kept a very bright lamp in it. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:14
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا
78:14
And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:15
لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا
78:15
In order to produce grain and plants with it. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:16
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا
78:16
And dense gardens. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:17
إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا
78:17
Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:18
يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا
78:18
The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:19
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا
78:19
And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:20
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا
78:20
And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:21
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا
78:21
Indeed hell is lying in ambush. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:22
لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا
78:22
The destination of the rebellious. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:23
لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا
78:23
They will remain in it for ages. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:24
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا
78:24
They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:25
إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا
78:25
Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:26
جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا
78:26
The reward to each is according to what he is. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:27
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا
78:27
Indeed they had no fear of the account. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:28
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا
78:28
And they denied Our signs to the extreme. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:29
وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا
78:29
And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:30
فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
78:30
Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:31
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
78:31
Indeed the place of success is for the pious. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:32
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا
78:32
Gardens and grapes. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:33
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا
78:33
And maidens of a single age. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:34
وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا
78:34
And an overflowing cup. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:35
لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا
78:35
In which they shall neither hear lewd talk, nor any lie. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:36
جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا
78:36
A reward from your Lord – a grossly sufficient bestowal. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:37
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا
78:37
Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all whatever is between them – the Most Gracious – with Whom no one will have the right to talk. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:38
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا
78:38
The day when Jibreel and all the angels will stand in rows; none will be able to speak except one whom the Most Gracious commands and who spoke rightly. (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – will be the first to be granted permission to intercede.) - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:39
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا
78:39
That is the True Day; therefore whoever wills may take the path towards his Lord. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
78:40
إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا
78:40
We warn you of a punishment that has come near; a day on which man will see what his own hands have sent ahead, and the disbeliever will say, “Alas – if only I were dust!” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
