Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
56:1
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
56:1

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
56:2
There is no denying that it will befall - - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:3
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
56:3
Abasing (some), exalting (others); - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:4
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
56:4
When the earth is shaken with a shock - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:5
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
56:5
And the hills are ground to powder - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:6
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا
56:6
So that they become a scattered dust, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:7
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً
56:7
And ye will be three kinds: - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:8
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
56:8
(First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:9
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
56:9
And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:10
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
56:10
And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:11
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
56:11
Those are they who will be brought nigh - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:12
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
56:12
In gardens of delight; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:13
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:13
A multitude of those of old - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:14
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:14
And a few of those of later time. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:15
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
56:15
On lined couches, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:16
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
56:16
Reclining therein face to face. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:17
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
56:17
There wait on them immortal youths - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:18
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
56:18
With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:19
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
56:19
Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:20
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
56:20
And fruit that they prefer - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:21
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
56:21
And flesh of fowls that they desire. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:22
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
56:22
And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:23
كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
56:23
Like unto hidden pearls, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:24
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
56:24
Reward for what they used to do. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:25
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
56:25
There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:26
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا
56:26
(Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:27
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:27
And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:28
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
56:28
Among thornless lote-trees - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:29
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
56:29
And clustered plantains, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:30
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
56:30
And spreading shade, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:31
وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ
56:31
And water gushing, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:32
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
56:32
And fruit in plenty - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:33
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
56:33
Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:34
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
56:34
And raised couches; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:35
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً
56:35
Lo! We have created them a (new) creation - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:36
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
56:36
And made them virgins, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:37
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
56:37
Lovers, friends, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:38
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:38
For those on the right hand; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:39
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:39

وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
56:41
And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)

فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
56:42
In scorching wind and scalding water - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:43
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
56:43
And shadow of black smoke, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:44
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
56:44
Neither cool nor refreshing. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:45
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
56:45
Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:46
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:46
And used to persist in the awful sin. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:47
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
56:47
And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)

أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
56:48
And also our forefathers? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:49
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:49
Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:50
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
56:50
Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:51
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
56:51
Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:52
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
56:52
Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:53
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
56:53
And will fill your bellies therewith; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:54
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
56:54
And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:55
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
56:55
Drinking even as the camel drinketh. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:56
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
56:56
This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:57
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
56:57
We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:58
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
56:58
Have ye seen that which ye emit? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:59
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
56:59
Do ye create it or are We the Creator? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:60
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
56:60
We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:61
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
56:61
That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
56:62
And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
56:63
Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:64
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
56:64
Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:65
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
56:65
If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
56:66
Lo! we are laden with debt! - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:67
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
56:67
Nay, but we are deprived! - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:68
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
56:68
Have ye observed the water which ye drink? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:69
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
56:69
Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:70
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
56:70
If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:71
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
56:71
Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:72
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
56:72
Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:73
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
56:73
We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:74
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:74
Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:75
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
56:75
Nay, I swear by the places of the stars - - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:76
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
56:76
And lo! that verily is a tremendous oath, if ye but knew - - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:77
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ
56:77
That (this) is indeed a noble Qur'an - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:78
فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
56:78
In a Book kept hidden - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:79
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
56:79
Which none toucheth save the purified, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:80
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
56:80
A revelation from the Lord of the Worlds. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:81
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
56:81
Is it this Statement that ye scorn, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
56:82
And make denial thereof your livelihood? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
56:83
Why, then, when (the soul) cometh up to the throat (of the dying) - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)

وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
56:84
And ye are at that moment looking - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:85
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
56:85
- And We are nearer unto him than ye are, but ye see not - - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:86
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
56:86
Why then, if ye are not in bondage (unto Us), - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:87
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
56:87
Do ye not force it back, if ye are truthful? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:88
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
56:88
Thus if he is of those brought nigh, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:89
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
56:89
Then breath of life, and plenty, and a Garden of delight. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:90
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:90
And if he is of those on the right hand, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:91
فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:91
Then (the greeting) "Peace be unto thee" from those on the right hand. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
56:92
But if he is of the rejecters, the erring, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:93
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
56:93
Then the welcome will be boiling water - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:94
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
56:94
And roasting at hell-fire. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
56:95
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
56:95
Lo! this is certain truth. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:96
