Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
56:1
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
56:1
When the great event comes to pass, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:2
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
56:2
There is no belying its coming to pass-- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:3
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
56:3
Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:4
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
56:4
When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:5
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
56:5
And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:6
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا
56:6
So that they shall be as scattered dust. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:7
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً
56:7
And you shall be three sorts. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:8
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
56:8
Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:9
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
56:9
And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:10
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
56:10
And the foremost are the foremost, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:11
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
56:11
These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:12
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
56:12
In the gardens of bliss. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:13
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:13
A numerous company from among the first, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:14
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:14
And a few from among the latter. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:15
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
56:15
On thrones decorated, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:16
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
56:16
Reclining on them, facing one another. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:17
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
56:17
Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:18
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
56:18
With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:19
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
56:19
They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:20
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
56:20
And fruits such as they choose, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:21
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
56:21
And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:22
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
56:22
And pure, beautiful ones, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:23
كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
56:23
The like of the hidden pearls: - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:24
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
56:24
A reward for what they used to do. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:25
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
56:25
They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:26
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا
56:26
Except the word peace, peace. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:27
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:27
And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:28
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
56:28
Amid thornless lote-trees, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:29
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
56:29
And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:30
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
56:30
And extended shade, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:31
وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ
56:31
And water flowing constantly, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:32
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
56:32
And abundant fruit, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:33
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
56:33
Neither intercepted nor forbidden, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:34
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
56:34
And exalted thrones. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:35
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً
56:35
Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:36
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
56:36
Then We have made them virgins, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:37
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
56:37
Loving, equals in age, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:38
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:38
For the sake of the companions of the right hand. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:39
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:39
A numerous company from among the first, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:40
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:40
And a numerous company from among the last. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:41
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
56:41
And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:42
فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
56:42
In hot wind and boiling water, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:43
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
56:43
And the shade of black smoke, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:44
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
56:44
Neither cool nor honorable. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:45
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
56:45
Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:46
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:46
And they persisted in the great violation. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:47
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
56:47
And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:48
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
56:48
Or our fathers of yore? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:49
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:49
Say: The first and the last, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:50
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
56:50
Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:51
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
56:51
Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:52
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
56:52
Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:53
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
56:53
And fill (your) bellies with it; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:54
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
56:54
Then drink over it of boiling water; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:55
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
56:55
And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:56
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
56:56
This is their entertainment on the day of requital. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:57
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
56:57
We have created you, why do you not then assent? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:58
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
56:58
Have you considered the seed? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:59
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
56:59
Is it you that create it or are We the creators? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:60
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
56:60
We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:61
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
56:61
In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:62
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
56:62
And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:63
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
56:63
Have you considered what you sow? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:64
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
56:64
Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:65
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
56:65
If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:66
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
56:66
Surely we are burdened with debt: - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:67
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
56:67
Nay! we are deprived. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:68
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
56:68
Have you considered the water which you drink? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:69
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
56:69
Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:70
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
56:70
If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:71
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
56:71
Have you considered the fire which you strike? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:72
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
56:72
Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:73
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
56:73
We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:74
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:74
Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:75
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
56:75
But nay! I swear by the falling of stars; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:76
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
56:76
And most surely it is a very great oath if you only knew; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:77
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ
56:77
Most surely it is an honored Quran, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:78
فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
56:78
In a book that is protected - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:79
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
56:79
None shall touch it save the purified ones. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:80
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
56:80
A revelation by the Lord of the worlds. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:81
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
56:81
Do you then hold this announcement in contempt? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
56:82
And to give (it) the lie you make your means of subsistence. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
56:83
Why is it not then that when it (soul) comes up to the throat, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:84
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
56:84
And you at that time look on-- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:85
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
56:85
And We are nearer to it than you, but you do not see-- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:86
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
56:86
Then why is it not-- if you are not held under authority-- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:87
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
56:87
That you send it (not) back-- if you are truthful? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:88
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
56:88
Then if he is one of those drawn nigh (to Allah), - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:89
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
56:89
Then happiness and bounty and a garden of bliss. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:90
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:90
And if he is one of those on the right hand, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:91
فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:91
Then peace to you from those on the right hand. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:92
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
56:92
And if he is one of the rejecters, the erring ones, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:93
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
56:93
He shall have an entertainment of boiling water, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:94
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
56:94
And burning in hell. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:95
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
56:95
Most surely this is a certain truth. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
56:96
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:96
Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
