بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
84:1
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ
84:1
When heaven is rent asunder - A. J. Arberry (English)

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
84:2
and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:3
وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
84:3
when earth is stretched out - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:4
وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ
84:4
and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:5
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
84:5
and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:6
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ
84:6
O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:7
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ
84:7
Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:8
فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا
84:8
he shall surely receive an easy reckoning - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:9
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا
84:9
and he will return to his family joyfully. - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:10
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ
84:10
But as for him who is given his book behind his back, - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:11
فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا
84:11
he shall call for destruction - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:12
وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا
84:12
and he shall roast at a Blaze. - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:13
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا
84:13
He once lived among his family joyfully; - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:14
إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ
84:14
he surely thought he would never revert. - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:15
بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا
84:15
Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:16
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ
84:16
No! I swear by the twilight - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:17
وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ
84:17
and the night and what it envelops - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:18
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ
84:18
and the moon when it is at the full, - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:19
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ
84:19
you shall surely ride stage after stage. - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:20
فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
84:20
Then what ails them, that they believe not, - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:21
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩
84:21
and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:22
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ
84:22
Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:23
وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ
84:23
and God knows very well what they are secreting. - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:24
فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
84:24
So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, - A. J. Arberry (English)
84:25
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ
84:25
except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. - A. J. Arberry (English)
