بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
51:1
وَٱلذَّٰرِيَـٰتِ ذَرْوًا
51:1
By the swift scatterers - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:2
فَٱلْحَـٰمِلَـٰتِ وِقْرًا
51:2
and the burden-bearers - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:3
فَٱلْجَـٰرِيَـٰتِ يُسْرًا
51:3
and the smooth runners - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:4
فَٱلْمُقَسِّمَـٰتِ أَمْرًا
51:4
and the partitioners, - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:5
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقٌ
51:5
surely that you are promised is true, - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:6
وَإِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ لَوَٰقِعٌ
51:6
and surely the Doom is about to fall! - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:7
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْحُبُكِ
51:7
By heaven with all its tracks - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:8
إِنَّكُمْ لَفِى قَوْلٍ مُّخْتَلِفٍ
51:8
surely you speak at variance, - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:9
يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ
51:9
and perverted therefrom are some. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:10
قُتِلَ ٱلْخَرَّٰصُونَ
51:10
Perish the conjecturers - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:11
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍ سَاهُونَ
51:11
who are dazed in perplexity - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:12
يَسْـَٔلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ
51:12
asking, 'When shall be the Day of Doom?' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:13
يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَ
51:13
Upon the day when they shall be tried at the Fire: - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:14
ذُوقُوا۟ فِتْنَتَكُمْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ
51:14
'Taste your trial! This is that you were seeking to hasten.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:15
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
51:15
Surely the godfearing shall be among gardens and fountains - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:16
ءَاخِذِينَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَ
51:16
taking whatsoever their Lord has given them; they were good-doers before that. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:17
كَانُوا۟ قَلِيلًا مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ
51:17
Little of the night would they slumber, - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:18
وَبِٱلْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
51:18
and in the mornings they would ask for forgiveness; - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:19
وَفِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
51:19
and the beggar and the outcast had a share in their wealth. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:20
وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ءَايَـٰتٌ لِّلْمُوقِنِينَ
51:20
In the earth are signs for those having sure faith; - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:21
وَفِىٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ
51:21
and in your selves; what, do you not see? - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:22
وَفِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقُكُمْ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ
51:22
And in heaven is your provision, and that you are promised. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:23
فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقٌّ مِّثْلَ مَآ أَنَّكُمْ تَنطِقُونَ
51:23
So by the Lord of heaven and earth, it is as surely true as that you have speech. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:24
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ
51:24
Hast thou received the story of the honoured guests of Abraham? - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:25
إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمًا ۖ قَالَ سَلَـٰمٌ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ
51:25
When they entered unto him, saying 'Peace!' he said 'Peace! You are a people unknown to me.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:26
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ فَجَآءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ
51:26
Then he turned to his household and brought a fattened calf, - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:27
فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ
51:27
and he laid it before them saying, 'Will you not eat?' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:28
فَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ
51:28
Then he conceived a fear of them. They said, 'Be not afraid!' And they gave him good tidings of a cunning boy. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:29
فَأَقْبَلَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ فِى صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌ
51:29
Then came forward his wife, clamouring, and she smote her face, and said, 'An old woman, barren!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:30
قَالُوا۟ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
51:30
They said, 'So says thy Lord; He is the All-wise, the All-knowing.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:31
۞ قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
51:31
Said he, 'And what is your business, envoys?' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:32
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ
51:32
They said, 'We have been sent to a people of sinners, - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:33
لِنُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن طِينٍ
51:33
to loose upon them stones of clay - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:34
مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ
51:34
marked with thy Lord for the prodigal. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:35
فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
51:35
So We brought forth such believers as were in it, - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:36
فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ
51:36
but We found not therein except one house of those that have surrendered themselves. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:37
وَتَرَكْنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَةً لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ
51:37
And therein We left a sign to those who fear the painful chastisement. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:38
وَفِى مُوسَىٰٓ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ
51:38
And also in Moses, when We sent him unto Pharaoh, with a clear authority, - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:39
فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِۦ وَقَالَ سَـٰحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ
51:39
but he turned his back, with his court, saying, 'A sorcerer, or a man possessed!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:40
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ
51:40
So We seized him and his hosts, and We cast them into the sea, and he blameworthy. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:41
وَفِى عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلرِّيحَ ٱلْعَقِيمَ
51:41
And also in Ad, when We loosed against them the withering wind - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:42
مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَىْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَٱلرَّمِيمِ
51:42
that left nothing it came upon, but made it as stuff decayed. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:43
وَفِى ثَمُودَ إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
51:43
And also in Thamood, when it was said to them, 'Take your enjoyment for a while!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:44
فَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ
51:44
Then they turned in disdain from the commandment of their Lord, and the thunderbolt took them and they themselves beholding - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:45
فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مِن قِيَامٍ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنتَصِرِينَ
51:45
and they were not able to stand upright, and were not helped. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:46
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا فَـٰسِقِينَ
51:46
And the people of Noah before; surely they were an ungodly people. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:47
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بَنَيْنَـٰهَا بِأَيْي۟دٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ
51:47
And heaven -- We built it with might, and We extend it wide. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:48
وَٱلْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَـٰهَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْمَـٰهِدُونَ
51:48
And the earth -- We spread it forth; O excellent Smoothers! - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:49
وَمِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ
51:49
And of everything created We two kinds; haply you will remember. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:50
فَفِرُّوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
51:50
Therefore flee unto God! I am a clear warner from Him to you. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:51
وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
51:51
And set not up with God another god; I am a clear warner from Him to you. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:52
كَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَتَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا۟ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ
51:52
Even so not a Messenger came to those before them but they said, 'A sorcerer, or a man possessed!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:53
أَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِهِۦ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ
51:53
What, have they bequeathed it one to another? Nay, but they are an insolent people. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:54
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِمَلُومٍ
51:54
So turn thou from them; thou wilt not be reproached. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:55
وَذَكِّرْ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
51:55
And remind; the Reminder profits the believers. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:56
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
51:56
I have not created jinn and mankind except to serve Me. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:57
مَآ أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِ
51:57
I desire of them no provision, neither do I desire that they should feed Me. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:58
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْمَتِينُ
51:58
Surely God is the All-provider, the Possessor of Strength, the Ever-Sure. - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:59
فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذَنُوبًا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَـٰبِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ
51:59
The evildoers shall have their portion, like the portion of their fellows; so let them not hasten Me! - A. J. Arberry (English)
51:60
فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن يَوْمِهِمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
51:60
So woe to the unbelievers, for that day of theirs that they are promised. - A. J. Arberry (English)
