Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
81:1
إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ
81:1
When the sun is folded up, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:2
وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتْ
81:2
and when the stars lose their light, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:3
وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ
81:3
and when the mountains are moved, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:4
وَإِذَا ٱلْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ
81:4
when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:5
وَإِذَا ٱلْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ
81:5
and when all beasts are gathered together, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)

وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ
81:6
and when the seas are set on fire, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:7
وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ
81:7
when the souls are divided into different classes, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:8
وَإِذَا ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتْ

and when the female infant buried alive is asked - Wahiduddin Khan (English)

بِأَىِّ ذَنۢبٍ قُتِلَتْ
81:9
for what sin she was killed, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)

وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ
81:10
when the records of men's deeds are laid open, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:11
وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتْ
81:11
when the sky is unveiled, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:12
وَإِذَا ٱلْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ
81:12
and when Hell is set ablaze, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:13
وَإِذَا ٱلْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ
81:13
when Paradise is brought close: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:14
عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّآ أَحْضَرَتْ
81:14
[then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:15
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلْخُنَّسِ
81:15
I swear by the receding stars, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:16
ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْكُنَّسِ
81:16
the planets that run their course and set, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:17
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ
81:17
and the night that falls, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:18
وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ
81:18
and the first breath of morning. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:19
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ
81:19
Truly, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)

ذِى قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ
81:20
endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:21
مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ
81:21
who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:22
وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ
81:22
Your companion is not one possessed: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:23
وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْمُبِينِ
81:23
he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:24
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ
81:24
He is not avid of the Unseen. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:25
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَـٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ
81:25
Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)

فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ
81:26
So where are you going? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:27
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
81:27
This is merely a reminder to all mankind; - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:28
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ
81:28
to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
81:29
وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
81:29
But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
