Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
68:1
نٓ ۚ وَٱلْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ
68:1
Nuun* – by oath of the pen and by oath of what is written by it. (Alphabet of the Arabic language; Allah and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:2
مَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ
68:2
You are not insane, by the munificence of your Lord. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:3
وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ
68:3
And indeed for you is an unlimited reward. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:4
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
68:4
And indeed you possess an exemplary character. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:5
فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ
68:5
So very soon, you will see and they too will realise – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:6
بِأَييِّكُمُ ٱلْمَفْتُونُ
68:6
- That who among you was insane. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:7
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
68:7
Indeed your Lord well knows those who have strayed from His path, and He well knows those who are upon guidance. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:8
فَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
68:8
Therefore do not listen to the deniers. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:9
وَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ
68:9
They wish that in some way you may yield, so they too might soften their stand. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:10
وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ
68:10
Nor ever listen to any excessive oath maker, ignoble person. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:11
هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِيمٍ
68:11
The excessively insulting one, spreader of spite. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:12
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
68:12
One who excessively forbids the good, transgressor, sinner. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:13
عُتُلٍّۭ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ
68:13
Foul mouthed, and in addition to all this, of improper lineage. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:14
أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ
68:14
Because he* has some wealth and sons. (Walid bin Mugaira, who cursed the Holy Prophet.) - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:15
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
68:15
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, “These are stories of earlier people.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:16
سَنَسِمُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلْخُرْطُومِ
68:16
We will soon singe his pig-nose. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:17
إِنَّا بَلَوْنَـٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا۟ لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ
68:17
We have indeed tested them the way We had tested the owners of the garden when they swore that they would reap its harvest the next morning. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:18
وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ
68:18
And they did not say, “If Allah wills”. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:19
فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَآئِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَآئِمُونَ
68:19
So an envoy from your Lord completed his round upon the garden, whilst they were sleeping. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:20
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَٱلصَّرِيمِ
68:20
So in the morning it became as if harvested. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:21
فَتَنَادَوْا۟ مُصْبِحِينَ
68:21
They then called out to each other at daybreak. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:22
أَنِ ٱغْدُوا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰرِمِينَ
68:22
That, “Go to your fields at early morn, if you want to harvest.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:23
فَٱنطَلَقُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ
68:23
So they went off, while whispering to one another. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:24
أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ
68:24
“Make sure that no needy person enters your garden this day.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:25
وَغَدَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَـٰدِرِينَ
68:25
And they left at early morn, assuming they were in control of their purpose. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:26
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لَضَآلُّونَ
68:26
Then when they saw it, they said, “We have indeed strayed.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:27
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
68:27
“In fact, we are unfortunate.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:28
قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ
68:28
The best among them said, “Did I not tell you, ‘Why do you not proclaim His purity?’” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:29
قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ
68:29
They said, “Purity is to our Lord – we have indeed been unjust.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:30
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَـٰوَمُونَ
68:30
So they came towards each other, blaming. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:31
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا طَـٰغِينَ
68:31
They said, “Woe to us – we were indeed rebellious.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:32
عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَآ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَٰغِبُونَ
68:32
“Hopefully, our Lord will give us a better replacement than this – we now incline towards our Lord.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:33
كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ
68:33
Such is the punishment; and indeed the punishment of the Hereafter is the greatest, if only they knew! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:34
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
68:34
Indeed for the pious, with their Lord, are Gardens of Serenity. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:35
أَفَنَجْعَلُ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ كَٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
68:35
Shall We equate the Muslims to the guilty? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:36
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
68:36
What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:37
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَـٰبٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ
68:37
Is there a Book for you, from which you read? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:38
إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ
68:38
- That for you in it is whatever you like? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:39
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَـٰنٌ عَلَيْنَا بَـٰلِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ
68:39
Or is it that you have a covenant from Us, right up to the Day of Judgement, that you will get all what you claim? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:40
سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ
68:40
Ask them, who among them is a guarantor for it? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:41
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَآءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِينَ
68:41
Or is it that they have partners in worship? So they should bring their appointed partners, if they are truthful. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:42
يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
68:42
On the day when the Shin* will be exposed and they will be called to prostrate themselves, they will be unable. (Used as a metaphor) - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:43
خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَـٰلِمُونَ
68:43
With lowered eyes, disgrace overcoming them; and indeed they used to be called to prostrate themselves whilst they were healthy. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:44
فَذَرْنِى وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
68:44
Therefore leave the one who denies this matter, to Me; We shall soon steadily take them away, from a place they do not know. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:45
وَأُمْلِى لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِى مَتِينٌ
68:45
And I will give them respite; indeed My plan is very solid. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:46
أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ
68:46
Or is it that you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) ask any fee from them, so they are burdened with the penalty? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:47
أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
68:47
Or that they possess the hidden, so they are writing it? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:48
فَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ ٱلْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ
68:48
Therefore wait for your Lord’s command, and do not be like the one of the fish; who cried out when he was distraught. (Prophet Yunus – peace be upon him.) - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:49
لَّوْلَآ أَن تَدَٰرَكَهُۥ نِعْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ
68:49
Were it not for his Lord’s favour that reached him, he would have surely been cast onto the desolate land, reproached. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:50
فَٱجْتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
68:50
His Lord therefore chose him and made him among those deserving His proximity. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:51
وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجْنُونٌ
68:51
And indeed the disbelievers seem as if they would topple you with their evil gaze when they hear the Qur’an, and they say, “He is indeed insane.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
68:52
وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
68:52
Whereas it is not but an advice to the entire creation! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
