Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
68:1
نٓ ۚ وَٱلْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ
68:1
Nun. By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:2
مَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ
68:2
Thou art not, by the Grace of thy Lord, mad or possessed. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:3
وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ
68:3
Nay, verily for thee is a Reward unfailing: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:4
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
68:4
And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:5
فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ
68:5
Soon wilt thou see, and they will see, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:6
بِأَييِّكُمُ ٱلْمَفْتُونُ
68:6
Which of you is afflicted with madness. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:7
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
68:7
Verily it is thy Lord that knoweth best, which (among men) hath strayed from His Path: and He knoweth best those who receive (true) Guidance. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:8
فَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
68:8
So hearken not to those who deny (the Truth). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:9
وَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ
68:9
Their desire is that thou shouldst be pliant: so would they be pliant. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:10
وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ
68:10
Heed not the type of despicable men,- ready with oaths, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:11
هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِيمٍ
68:11
A slanderer, going about with calumnies, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:12
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
68:12
(Habitually) hindering (all) good, transgressing beyond bounds, deep in sin, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:13
عُتُلٍّۭ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ
68:13
Violent (and cruel),- with all that, base-born,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:14
أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ
68:14
Because he possesses wealth and (numerous) sons. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:15
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
68:15
When to him are rehearsed Our Signs, "Tales of the ancients", he cries! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:16
سَنَسِمُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلْخُرْطُومِ
68:16
Soon shall We brand (the beast) on the snout! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:17
إِنَّا بَلَوْنَـٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا۟ لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ
68:17
Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:18
وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ
68:18
But made no reservation, ("If it be Allah's Will"). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:19
فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَآئِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَآئِمُونَ
68:19
Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, (which swept away) all around, while they were asleep. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:20
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَٱلصَّرِيمِ
68:20
So the (garden) became, by the morning, like a dark and desolate spot, (whose fruit had been gathered). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:21
فَتَنَادَوْا۟ مُصْبِحِينَ
68:21
As the morning broke, they called out, one to another,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:22
أَنِ ٱغْدُوا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰرِمِينَ
68:22
"Go ye to your tilth (betimes) in the morning, if ye would gather the fruits." - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:23
فَٱنطَلَقُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ
68:23
So they departed, conversing in secret low tones, (saying)- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:24
أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ
68:24
"Let not a single indigent person break in upon you into the (garden) this day." - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:25
وَغَدَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَـٰدِرِينَ
68:25
And they opened the morning, strong in an (unjust) resolve. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:26
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لَضَآلُّونَ
68:26
But when they saw the (garden), they said: "We have surely lost our way: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:27
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
68:27
"Indeed we are shut out (of the fruits of our labour)!" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:28
قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ
68:28
Said one of them, more just (than the rest): "Did I not say to you, 'Why not glorify (Allah)?'" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:29
قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ
68:29
They said: "Glory to our Lord! Verily we have been doing wrong!" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:30
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَـٰوَمُونَ
68:30
Then they turned, one against another, in reproach. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:31
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا طَـٰغِينَ
68:31
They said: "Alas for us! We have indeed transgressed! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:32
عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَآ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَٰغِبُونَ
68:32
"It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better (garden) than this: for we do turn to Him (in repentance)!" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:33
كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ
68:33
Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,- if only they knew! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:34
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
68:34
Verily, for the Righteous, are Gardens of Delight, in the Presence of their Lord. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:35
أَفَنَجْعَلُ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ كَٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
68:35
Shall We then treat the People of Faith like the People of Sin? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:36
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
68:36
What is the matter with you? How judge ye? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:37
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَـٰبٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ
68:37
Or have ye a book through which ye learn- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:38
إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ
68:38
That ye shall have, through it whatever ye choose? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:39
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَـٰنٌ عَلَيْنَا بَـٰلِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ
68:39
Or have ye Covenants with Us to oath, reaching to the Day of Judgment, (providing) that ye shall have whatever ye shall demand? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:40
سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ
68:40
Ask thou of them, which of them will stand surety for that! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:41
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَآءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِينَ
68:41
Or have they some "Partners" (in Allahhead)? Then let them produce their "partners", if they are truthful! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:42
يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
68:42
The Day that the shin shall be laid bare, and they shall be summoned to bow in adoration, but they shall not be able,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:43
خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَـٰلِمُونَ
68:43
Their eyes will be cast down,- ignominy will cover them; seeing that they had been summoned aforetime to bow in adoration, while they were whole, (and had refused). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:44
فَذَرْنِى وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
68:44
Then leave Me alone with such as reject this Message: by degrees shall We punish them from directions they perceive not. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:45
وَأُمْلِى لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِى مَتِينٌ
68:45
A (long) respite will I grant them: truly powerful is My Plan. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:46
أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ
68:46
Or is it that thou dost ask them for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:47
أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
68:47
Or that the Unseen is in their hands, so that they can write it down? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:48
فَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ ٱلْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ
68:48
So wait with patience for the Command of thy Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish,- when he cried out in agony. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:49
لَّوْلَآ أَن تَدَٰرَكَهُۥ نِعْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ
68:49
Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked shore, in disgrace. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:50
فَٱجْتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
68:50
Thus did his Lord choose him and make him of the Company of the Righteous. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:51
وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجْنُونٌ
68:51
And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes when they hear the Message; and they say: "Surely he is possessed!" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
68:52
وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
68:52
But it is nothing less than a Message to all the worlds. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
