بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
54:1
ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ
54:1
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:2
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ
54:2
And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:3
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
54:3
And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:4
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ
54:4
And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:5
حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
54:5
The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ
54:6
Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:7
خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ
54:7
They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:8
مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ
54:8
Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:9
۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ
54:9
Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:10
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ
54:10
He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:11
فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ
54:11
We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:12
وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ
54:12
And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:13
وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ
54:13
And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:14
تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
54:14
Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:15
وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:15
And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:16
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:16
So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:17
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:17
And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:18
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:18
The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:19
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ
54:19
We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:20
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ
54:20
Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:21
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:21
So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:22
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:22
And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:23
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:23
The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:24
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
54:24
So they said, “What! Shall we follow a man from among us? If we do, we are indeed astray, and insane!” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:25
أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ
54:25
“What! Of all the men among us, the remembrance has come down upon him? In fact, he is a mischievous, great liar.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:26
سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ
54:26
It was said to Saleh, “They will soon realise tomorrow who is the mischievous great liar.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:27
إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ
54:27
“We shall send a she-camel to test them, therefore O Saleh, wait and have patience.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:28
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ
54:28
“And inform them that the water is to be shared between them; only those may come whose turn it is.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:29
فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
54:29
In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:30
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:30
So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:31
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ
54:31
Indeed We sent upon them a single Scream – thereupon they became like the barrier builder’s residual dry trampled hay. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:32
And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:33
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:33
The people of Lut denied the Noble Messengers. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:34
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ
54:34
Indeed We sent a shower of stones upon them, except the family of Lut; We rescued them before dawn. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:35
نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ
54:35
As a reward from Us; this is how We reward one who gives thanks. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:36
وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:36
And indeed he had warned them of Our seizure – in response they doubted the warnings. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:37
وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:37
And they tried to persuade him regarding his guests – We therefore blinded their eyes, “So taste My punishment, and My warnings.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:38
وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
54:38
And indeed, the everlasting punishment overcame them early in the morning. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:39
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:39
“So taste My punishment, and My warnings!” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:40
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:40
And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:41
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
54:41
And indeed the Noble Messengers came to the people of Firaun. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:42
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
54:42
They denied all Our signs, We therefore seized them – the seizure of the Most Honourable, the All Powerful. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:43
أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
54:43
Are your disbelievers better than they were, or have you been given exemption in the Books? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:44
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ
54:44
Or they say, “We shall all take revenge as a group.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:45
سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
54:45
The group will soon be routed, and will turn their backs to flee. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:46
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
54:46
In fact their promise is upon the Last Day – and the Last Day is very severe and very bitter! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:47
إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
54:47
Indeed the criminals are astray and insane. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:48
يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
54:48
On the day when they are dragged upon their faces in the fire – “Taste the heat of hell.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:49
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ
54:49
We have indeed created all things by a proper measure. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:50
وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ
54:50
And Our command is only a fleeting one – like the batting of an eyelid. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:51
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:51
And We have indeed destroyed your kind, so is there one who would ponder? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:52
وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
54:52
And all what they did is in the Books. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:53
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ
54:53
And every small and great thing is recorded. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:54
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ
54:54
Indeed the pious are amidst Gardens and springs. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
54:55
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
54:55
Seated in an assembly of the Truth, in the presence of Allah, the Omnipotent King. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
