بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
54:1
ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ
54:1
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:2
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ
54:2
Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:3
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
54:3
They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:4
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ
54:4
there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:5
حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
54:5
profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ
54:6
so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:7
خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ
54:7
with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:8
مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ
54:8
hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:9
۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ
54:9
The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:10
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ
54:10
so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:11
فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ
54:11
So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:12
وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ
54:12
and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:13
وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ
54:13
We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:14
تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
54:14
floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:15
وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:15
We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:16
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:16
How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:17
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:17
We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:18
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:18
The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:19
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ
54:19
We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:20
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ
54:20
It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:21
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:21
How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:22
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:22
We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:23
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:23
The tribe of Thamud also rejected Our warnings: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:24
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
54:24
they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:25
أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ
54:25
Has the [Divine] message been revealed to him alone of all of us? No, he is a boastful liar." - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:26
سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ
54:26
[We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:27
إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ
54:27
for We are [going to] send the she-camel as a trial for them, so watch them and be patient. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:28
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ
54:28
And tell them that the water [of the well] is to be divided between them, and that each one should drink in turn." - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:29
فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
54:29
But they called their companion who took a sword and hamstrung her. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:30
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:30
How [terrible] were My punishment and My warnings! - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:31
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ
54:31
Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:32
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:32
Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to learn lessons from. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:33
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:33
The people of Lot rejected Our warnings. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:34
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ
54:34
We sent a sandstorm against them which destroyed them all, except the family of Lot, whom We saved at the break of dawn, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:35
نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ
54:35
as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:36
وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:36
Lot warned them of Our punishment, but they disputed the warnings -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:37
وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:37
they even wanted to seduce his guests -- but We blinded them, and said, "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:38
وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
54:38
and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:39
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:39
"Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:40
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:40
We have made it easy indeed to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:41
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
54:41
Surely warners came to the people of Pharaoh. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:42
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
54:42
They, too, rejected all Our signs. So We seized them with the seizure of One Mighty, Omnipotent. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:43
أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
54:43
Are your people who deny the truth better than those? Or have you been given immunity in the Scriptures? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:44
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ
54:44
Or do they say, "We are a united group, and we are bound to prevail?" - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:45
سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
54:45
The hosts shall soon be routed and they shall be put to flight. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:46
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
54:46
Indeed, the Hour of Doom is their appointed time, and the Last Hour will be the most severe, and the most bitter. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:47
إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
54:47
The evil-doers are indeed sunk in error and folly -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:48
يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
54:48
on the Day when they are dragged into the fire on their faces, it will be said to them, "Now feel the touch of Hell!" - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:49
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ
54:49
We have created everything in due measure; - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:50
وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ
54:50
We command but once: Our will is done in the twinkling of an eye; - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:51
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:51
We have indeed destroyed many a people like you. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:52
وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
54:52
All their deeds are recorded in their books: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:53
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ
54:53
every action, small or great, is noted down. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:54
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ
54:54
The God-conscious will find themselves in gardens and rivers, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
54:55
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
54:55
in the seat of truth with an all-powerful sovereign. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
