بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
54:1
ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ
54:1
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:2
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ
54:2
But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:3
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
54:3
They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:4
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ
54:4
There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:5
حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
54:5
Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ
54:6
Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:7
خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ
54:7
They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:8
مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ
54:8
Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:9
۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ
54:9
Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:10
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ
54:10
Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:11
فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ
54:11
So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:12
وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ
54:12
And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:13
وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ
54:13
But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:14
تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
54:14
She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:15
وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:15
And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:16
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:16
But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:17
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:17
And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:18
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:18
The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:19
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ
54:19
For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:20
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ
54:20
Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:21
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:21
Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:22
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:22
But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:23
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:23
The Thamud (also) rejected (their) Warners. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:24
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
54:24
For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:25
أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ
54:25
"Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:26
سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ
54:26
Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:27
إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ
54:27
For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:28
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ
54:28
And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:29
فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
54:29
But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:30
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:30
Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:31
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ
54:31
For We sent against them a single Mighty Blast, and they became like the dry stubble used by one who pens cattle. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:32
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:32
And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:33
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:33
The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:34
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ
54:34
We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:35
نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ
54:35
As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:36
وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:36
And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:37
وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:37
And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:38
وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
54:38
Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:39
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:39
"So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:40
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:40
And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:41
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
54:41
To the People of Pharaoh, too, aforetime, came Warners (from Allah). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:42
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
54:42
The (people) rejected all Our Signs; but We seized them with such Penalty (as comes) from One Exalted in Power, able to carry out His Will. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:43
أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
54:43
Are your Unbelievers, (O Quraish), better than they? Or have ye an immunity in the Sacred Books? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:44
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ
54:44
Or do they say: "We acting together can defend ourselves"? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:45
سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
54:45
Soon will their multitude be put to flight, and they will show their backs. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:46
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
54:46
Nay, the Hour (of Judgment) is the time promised them (for their full recompense): And that Hour will be most grievous and most bitter. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:47
إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
54:47
Truly those in sin are the ones straying in mind, and mad. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:48
يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
54:48
The Day they will be dragged through the Fire on their faces, (they will hear:) "Taste ye the touch of Hell!" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:49
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ
54:49
Verily, all things have We created in proportion and measure. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:50
وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ
54:50
And Our Command is but a single (Act),- like the twinkling of an eye. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:51
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:51
And (oft) in the past, have We destroyed gangs like unto you: then is there any that will receive admonition? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:52
وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
54:52
All that they do is noted in (their) Books (of Deeds): - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:53
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ
54:53
Every matter, small and great, is on record. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:54
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ
54:54
As to the Righteous, they will be in the midst of Gardens and Rivers, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
54:55
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
54:55
In an Assembly of Truth, in the Presence of a Sovereign Omnipotent. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
