بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
53:1
وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
53:1
I swear by the star when it goes down. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:2
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
53:2
Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:3
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ
53:3
Nor does he speak out of desire. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:4
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌ يُوحَىٰ
53:4
It is naught but revelation that is revealed, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:5
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ
53:5
The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:6
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ
53:6
The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:7
وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
53:7
And he is in the highest part of the horizon. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:8
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
53:8
Then he drew near, then he bowed - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:9
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
53:9
So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:10
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ
53:10
And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:11
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
53:11
The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:12
أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
53:12
What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:13
وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
53:13
And certainly he saw him in another descent, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:14
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:14
At the farthest lote-tree; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:15
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ
53:15
Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:16
إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
53:16
When that which covers covered the lote-tree; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:17
مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
53:17
The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:18
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ
53:18
Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:19
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
53:19
Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:20
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ
53:20
And Manat, the third, the last? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:21
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:21
What! for you the males and for Him the females! - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:22
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ
53:22
This indeed is an unjust division! - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:23
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
53:23
They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:24
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
53:24
Or shall man have what he wishes? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:25
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:25
Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:26
۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
53:26
And how many an angel is there in the heavens whose intercession does not avail at all except after Allah has given permission to whom He pleases and chooses. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:27
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:27
Most surely they who do not believe in the hereafter name the angels with female names. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:28
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا
53:28
And they have no knowledge of it; they do not follow anything but conjecture, and surely conjecture does not avail against the truth at all. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:29
فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
53:29
Therefore turn aside from him who turns his back upon Our reminder and does not desire anything but this world's life. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:30
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
53:30
That is their goal of knowledge; surely your Lord knows best him who goes astray from His path and He knows best him who follows the right direction. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:31
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى
53:31
And Allah's is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, that He may reward those who do evil according to what they do, and (that) He may reward those who do good with goodness. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:32
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
53:32
Those who keep aloof from the great sins and the indecencies but the passing idea; surely your Lord is liberal in forgiving. He knows you best when He brings you forth from the earth and when you are embryos in the wombs of your mothers; therefore do not attribute purity to your souls; He knows him best who guards (against evil). - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:33
أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ
53:33
Have you then seen him who turns his back? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:34
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
53:34
And gives a little and (then) withholds. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:35
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
53:35
Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:36
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
53:36
Or, has he not been informed of what is in the scriptures of Musa? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:37
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ
53:37
And (of) Ibrahim who fulfilled (the commandments): - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:38
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
53:38
That no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:39
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
53:39
And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:40
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
53:40
And that his striving shall soon be seen- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:41
ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ
53:41
Then shall he be rewarded for it with the fullest reward- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:42
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:42
And that to your Lord is the goal- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:43
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
53:43
And that He it is Who makes (men) laugh and makes (them) weep; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:44
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
53:44
And that He it is Who causes death and gives life- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:45
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:45
And that He created pairs, the male and the female - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:46
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
53:46
From the small seed when it is adapted - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:47
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ
53:47
And that on Him is the bringing forth a second time; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:48
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
53:48
And that He it is Who enriches and gives to hold; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:49
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ
53:49
And that He is the Lord of the Sirius; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:50
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:50
And that He did destroy the Ad of old - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:51
وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ
53:51
And Samood, so He spared not - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:52
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
53:52
And the people of Nuh before; surely they were most unjust and inordinate; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:53
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
53:53
And the overthrown cities did He overthrow, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:54
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
53:54
So there covered them that which covered. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:55
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
53:55
Which of your Lord's benefits will you then dispute about? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:56
هَـٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
53:56
This is a warner of the warners of old. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:57
أَزِفَتِ ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ
53:57
The near event draws nigh. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:58
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
53:58
There shall be none besides Allah to remove it. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:59
أَفَمِنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
53:59
Do you then wonder at this announcement? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:60
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
53:60
And will you laugh and not weep? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:61
وَأَنتُمْ سَـٰمِدُونَ
53:61
While you are indulging in varieties. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
53:62
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩
53:62
So make obeisance to Allah and serve (Him). - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
