بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
74:1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
74:1
O you wrapped up in your mantle! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:2
قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
74:2
Rise up and warn! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
74:3
Magnify your Lord, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:4
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
74:4
and purify your clothes, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:5
وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
74:5
and keep away from all impurity! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:6
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
74:6
Do not grant a favour seeking a greater gain, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:7
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
74:7
and be patient for the sake of your Lord. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:8
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
74:8
When the Trumpet will be sounded, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:9
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
74:9
that will be a day of hardship, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:10
عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
74:10
not at all easy for the faithless. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:11
ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
74:11
Leave Me [to deal] with him whom I created alone, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:12
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
74:12
and furnished him with extensive means, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:13
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
74:13
[gave him] sons to be at his side, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:14
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
74:14
and facilitated [all matters] for him. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:15
ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
74:15
Still he is eager that I should give him more. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:16
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
74:16
No indeed! He is an obstinate opponent of Our signs. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:17
سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
74:17
Soon I will overwhelm him with hardship. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:18
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
74:18
Indeed he reflected and decided. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:19
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:19
Perish he, how he decided! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:20
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:20
Again, perish he, how he decided! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:21
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
74:21
Then he looked; - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:22
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
74:22
then frowned and scowled. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:23
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
74:23
Then he walked away disdainfully, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:24
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
74:24
saying, ‘It is nothing but traditional sorcery. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:25
إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
74:25
It is nothing but the speech of a human.’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:26
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
74:26
Soon I will cast him into Saqar. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:27
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
74:27
And what will show you what is Saqar? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:28
لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
74:28
It neither spares, nor leaves [anything]. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:29
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:29
It burns the skin. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:30
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
74:30
There are nineteen [keepers] over it. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:31
وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
74:31
We have assigned only angels as keepers of the Fire, and We have made their number merely a stumbling block for the faithless, and so that those who were given the Book may be reassured, and the faithful may increase in [their] faith, and so that those who were given the Book and the faithful may not be in doubt, and so that the faithless and those in whose hearts is a sickness may say, ‘What did Allah mean by this description?’ Thus does Allah lead astray whomever He wishes and guides whomever He wishes. No one knows the hosts of your Lord except Him, and it is just an admonition for all humans. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:32
كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
74:32
No indeed! By the Moon! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:33
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
74:33
By the night when it recedes! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:34
وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
74:34
By the dawn when it brightens! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:35
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
74:35
Indeed they are one of the greatest [signs of God] - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:36
نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:36
—a warner to all humans, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:37
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
74:37
[alike] for those of you who like to advance ahead and those who would remain behind. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:38
كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
74:38
Every soul is hostage to what it has earned, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:39
إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
74:39
except the People of the Right Hand. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:40
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
74:40
[They will be] in gardens, questioning - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:41
عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
74:41
the guilty: - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:42
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
74:42
‘What drew you into Hell?’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:43
قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
74:43
They will answer, ‘We were not among those who prayed. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:44
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
74:44
Nor did we feed the poor. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:45
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
74:45
We used to indulge in [profane] gossip along with the gossipers, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:46
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
74:46
and we used to deny the Day of Retribution - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:47
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
74:47
until death came to us.’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:48
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
74:48
So the intercession of the intercessors will not avail them. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:49
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
74:49
What is the matter with them that they evade the Reminder - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:50
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
74:50
as if they were terrified asses - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:51
فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
74:51
fleeing from a lion? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:52
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
74:52
But everyone of them desires to be given unrolled scriptures [from Allah]! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:53
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
74:53
No! Indeed, they do not fear the Hereafter. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:54
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
74:54
No! It is indeed a reminder. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:55
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
74:55
So let anyone who wishes be mindful of it. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
74:56
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
74:56
And they will not be mindful unless Allah wishes. He is worthy of [your] being wary [of Him] and He is worthy to forgive. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
