بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
74:1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
74:1
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)

قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
74:2
Rise up and warn! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
74:3
And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:4
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
74:4
And keep your clothes clean. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:5
وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
74:5
And stay away from idols. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:6
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
74:6
And do not favour others in order to receive more. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:7
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
74:7
And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:8
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
74:8
So when the Trumpet will be blown. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:9
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
74:9
So that is a tough day. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:10
عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
74:10
Not easy upon the disbelievers. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:11
ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
74:11
Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:12
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
74:12
And gave him vast wealth. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:13
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
74:13
And gave him sons present before him. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:14
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
74:14
And made several preparations for him. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:15
ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
74:15
Yet he desires that I should give more. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:16
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
74:16
Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:17
سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
74:17
Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:18
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
74:18
Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:19
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:19
So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:20
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:20
Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:21
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
74:21
He then dared to lift his gaze. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:22
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
74:22
Then frowned and grimaced. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:23
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
74:23
Then he turned away, and was haughty. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:24
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
74:24
And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:25
إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
74:25
“This is nothing but the speech of a man.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:26
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
74:26
I will soon fling him into hell. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:27
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
74:27
And what have you understood, what hell is! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:28
لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
74:28
It neither leaves, nor spares. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:29
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:29
It strips away the hide of man. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:30
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
74:30
Above it are nineteen guards. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:31
وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
74:31
We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:32
كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
74:32
Yes, never!* By oath of the moon. (Hell will never spare the disbelievers). - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
74:33
And by oath of the night when it turns back. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:34
وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
74:34
And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:35
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
74:35
Indeed hell is one of the greatest entities. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:36
نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:36
Warn the men. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:37
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
74:37
For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:38
كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
74:38
Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:39
إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
74:39
Except those on the right side. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:40
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
74:40
In Gardens, they seek answers, - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:41
عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
74:41
- From the guilty. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:42
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
74:42
“What took you into the hell?” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:43
قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
74:43
They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:44
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
74:44
“Nor used to feed the needy.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:45
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
74:45
“And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:46
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
74:46
“And used to deny the Day of Justice.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:47
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
74:47
“Till death overcame us.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:48
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
74:48
So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:49
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
74:49
So what is the matter with them that they turn away from the advice? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:50
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
74:50
As if they were startled donkeys – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:51
فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
74:51
Fleeing away from a lion. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:52
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
74:52
Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:53
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
74:53
Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:54
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
74:54
Yes indeed, this is an advice. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:55
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
74:55
So whoever wills may heed advice from it. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
74:56
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
74:56
And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
