بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

74:1 يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
74:1 O you who are clothed! - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:2 قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
74:2 Arise and warn, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:3 وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
74:3 And your Lord do magnify, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:4 وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
74:4 And your garments do purify, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:5 وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
74:5 And uncleanness do shun, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:6 وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
74:6 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:7 وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
74:7 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:8 فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
74:8 For when the trumpet is sounded, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:9 فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
74:9 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:10 عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
74:10 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:11 ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
74:11 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:12 وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
74:12 And give him vast riches, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:13 وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
74:13 And sons dwelling in his presence, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:14 وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
74:14 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:15 ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
74:15 And yet he desires that I should add more! - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:16 كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
74:16 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:17 سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
74:17 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:18 إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
74:18 Surely he reflected and guessed, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:19 فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:19 But may he be cursed how he plotted; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:20 ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:20 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:21 ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
74:21 Then he looked, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:22 ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
74:22 Then he frowned and scowled, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:23 ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
74:23 Then he turned back and was big with pride, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:24 فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
74:24 ~Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:25 إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
74:25 This is naught but the word of a mortal. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:26 سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
74:26 I will cast him into hell. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:27 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
74:27 And what will make you realize what hell is? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:28 لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
74:28 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:29 لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:29 It scorches the mortal. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:30 عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
74:30 Over it are nineteen. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:31 وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
74:31 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:32 كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
74:32 Nay; I swear by the moon, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:33 وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
74:33 And the night when it departs, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:34 وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
74:34 And the daybreak when it shines; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:35 إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
74:35 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:36 نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:36 A warning to mortals, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:37 لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
74:37 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:38 كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
74:38 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:39 إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
74:39 Except the people of the right hand, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:40 فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
74:40 In gardens, they shall ask each other - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:41 عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
74:41 About the guilty: - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:42 مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
74:42 What has brought you into hell? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:43 قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
74:43 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:44 وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
74:44 And we used not to feed the poor; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:45 وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
74:45 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:46 وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
74:46 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:47 حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
74:47 Till death overtook us. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:48 فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
74:48 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:49 فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
74:49 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:50 كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
74:50 As if they were asses taking fright - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:51 فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
74:51 That had fled from a lion? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:52 بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
74:52 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:53 كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
74:53 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:54 كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
74:54 Nay! it is surely an admonition. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:55 فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
74:55 So whoever pleases may mind it. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

74:56 وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
74:56 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
