بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
74:1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
74:1
O thou enveloped? - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)

قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
74:2
Arise, and warn. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
74:3
And thine Lord magnify! - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:4
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
74:4
And thine raiment purify. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:5
وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
74:5
And pollution shun. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:6
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
74:6
And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:7
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
74:7
And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:8
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
74:8
Then when the horn shall be blown, - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:9
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
74:9
That shall be - that Day-a day hard. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:10
عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
74:10
For the infidels, not easy. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:11
ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
74:11
Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:12
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
74:12
And for whom I appointed wealth extended. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:13
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
74:13
And sons present by his side. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:14
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
74:14
And for whom I smoothed everything. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:15
ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
74:15
And who yet coveteth that shall increase. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:16
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
74:16
By no means! Verily he hath been Unto Our signs a foe. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:17
سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
74:17
Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:18
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
74:18
Verily he considered, and devised. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:19
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:19
Perish he! How moliciously he devised! - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:20
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:20
And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:21
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
74:21
Then looked he, - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:22
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
74:22
Then frowned he and scowled. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:23
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
74:23
Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:24
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
74:24
Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:25
إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
74:25
Naught is this but the word of Man. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:26
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
74:26
Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:27
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
74:27
And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:28
لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
74:28
It shall not spare, nor leave. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:29
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:29
. Scorching the skin. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:30
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
74:30
Over it are appointed nineteen. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:31
وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
74:31
And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition Unto man. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:32
كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
74:32
By no means! By the moon, - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:33
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
74:33
By the night when it with draweth. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:34
وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
74:34
By the morning when it brighteneth. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:35
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
74:35
Verily it is one of the greatest woes. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:36
نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:36
A warning Unto humankind - - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:37
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
74:37
A warning Unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:38
كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
74:38
Every soul will be a pledge for that which it hath earned, - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:39
إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
74:39
Save the fellows of the right. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:40
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
74:40
In Gardens; they shall be asking, - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:41
عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
74:41
Concerning the culprits: - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:42
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
74:42
What led you into the Scorching Fire? - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:43
قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
74:43
They will say. 'we have not been of those who prayed. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:44
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
74:44
And we have not been feeding the poor. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:45
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
74:45
And we have been wading with the waders. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:46
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
74:46
And we have been belying the Day of Requital. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:47
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
74:47
until there came to us the certainty. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:48
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
74:48
Then there will not Profit them intercision of the interceders, - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:49
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
74:49
What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the Admonition turning away? - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:50
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
74:50
As though they were asses startled." - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:51
فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
74:51
Fleeing away from a lion. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:52
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
74:52
Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:53
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
74:53
By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:54
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
74:54
By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an Admonition. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:55
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
74:55
So whosoever willeth may heed it. - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
74:56
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
74:56
And they shall not heed unless Allah Willeth. He is the Lord of piety. and the Lord of forgiveness - Abdul Majid Daryabadi (English)
