Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
69:1
ٱلْحَآقَّةُ
69:1
The Besieger! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:2
مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ
69:2
What is the Besieger?! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:3
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ
69:3
What will show you what is the Besieger?! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:4
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌۢ بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ
69:4
Thamudand ‘Ad denied the Cataclysm. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:5
فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ
69:5
As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the Cry. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:6
وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ
69:6
And as for ‘Ad, they were destroyed by a fierce icy gale, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:7
سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى ٱلْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ
69:7
which He clamped on them for seven gruelling nights and eight days, so that you could see the people there lying about prostrate as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:8
فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٍ
69:8
So do you see any remaining trace of them? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:9
وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُ بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ
69:9
Then Pharaoh and those who were before him, and the towns that were overturned, brought about iniquity. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:10
فَعَصَوْا۟ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً
69:10
They disobeyed the apostle of their Lord, so He seized them with a terrible seizing. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:11
إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلْمَآءُ حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْ فِى ٱلْجَارِيَةِ
69:11
Indeed when the Flood rose high, We carried you in a floating ark, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:12
لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٌ وَٰعِيَةٌ
69:12
that We might make it a reminder for you, and that receptive ears might remember it. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:13
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ
69:13
When the Trumpet is blown with a single blast - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:14
وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَٰحِدَةً
69:14
and the earth and the mountains are lifted and levelled with a single levelling, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:15
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
69:15
then, on that day, will the Imminent [Hour] befall - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:16
وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِىَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ
69:16
and the sky will be split open—for it will be frail on that day— - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:17
وَٱلْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌ
69:17
with the angels all over it, and the Throne of your Lord will be borne that day by eight [angels]. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:18
يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ
69:18
That day you will be presented [before your Lord]: none of your secrets will remain hidden. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:19
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقْرَءُوا۟ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ
69:19
As for him who is given his book in his right hand, he will say, ‘Here, take and read my book! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:20
إِنِّى ظَنَنتُ أَنِّى مُلَـٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ
69:20
Indeed I knew that I will encounter my account [of deeds].’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:21
فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ
69:21
So he will have a pleasant life, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:22
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
69:22
in an elevated garden, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:23
قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ
69:23
whose clusters [of fruits] will be within easy reach. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:24
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَآ أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَيَّامِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ
69:24
[He will be told]: ‘Enjoy your food and drink, for what you had sent in advance in past days [for your future life].’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:25
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ
69:25
But as for him who is given his book in his left hand, he will say, ‘I wish I had not been given my book, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:26
وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ
69:26
nor had I ever known what my account is! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:27
يَـٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ
69:27
I wish death had been the end of it all! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:28
مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّى مَالِيَهْ ۜ
69:28
My wealth did not avail me. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:29
هَلَكَ عَنِّى سُلْطَـٰنِيَهْ
69:29
My authority has left me.’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:30
خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ
69:30
[The angels will be told:] ‘Seize him, and fetter him! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:31
ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ
69:31
Then put him into hell. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:32
ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ
69:32
Then bind him in a chain, seventy cubits in length. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:33
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
69:33
Indeed he had no faith in Allah, the All-supreme, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:34
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
69:34
and he did not urge the feeding of the needy, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:35
فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَـٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌ
69:35
so he has no friend here today, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:36
وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ
69:36
nor any food except pus, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:37
لَّا يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَ
69:37
which no one shall eat except the iniquitous.’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:38
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ
69:38
I swear by what you see - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:39
وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ
69:39
and what you do not see: - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:40
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ
69:40
it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:41
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ
69:41
and it is not the speech of a poet. Little is the faith that you have! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:42
وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ
69:42
Nor is it the speech of a soothsayer. Little is the admonition that you take! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:43
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
69:43
Gradually sent down from the Lord of all the worlds. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:44
وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ
69:44
Had he faked any sayings in Our name, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:45
لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِٱلْيَمِينِ
69:45
We would have surely seized him by the right hand - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:46
ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ
69:46
and then cut off his aorta, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:47
فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَـٰجِزِينَ
69:47
and none of you could have held Us off from him. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:48
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ
69:48
Indeed it is a reminder for the Godwary. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:49
وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ
69:49
Indeed We know that there are some among you who deny [it]. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:50
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
69:50
And indeed it will be a [matter of] regret for the faithless. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:51
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
69:51
It is indeed certain truth. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
69:52
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
69:52
So celebrate the Name of your Lord, the All-supreme. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
