Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
69:1
ٱلْحَآقَّةُ
69:1
The Inevitable Hour! - Wahiduddin Khan (English)

مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ
69:2
What is the Inevitable Hour? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:3
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ
69:3
And what will make you realize what the Inevitable Hour is? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:4
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌۢ بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ
69:4
The tribes of Thamud and 'Ad denied that disaster would strike them: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:5
فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ
69:5
the Thamud were destroyed by a terrible storm of thunder and lightning; - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:6
وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ
69:6
and the 'Ad were destroyed by a furious wind - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:7
سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى ٱلْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ
69:7
which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:8
فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٍ
69:8
Do you see any vestige left of them now? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:9
وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُ بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ
69:9
Pharoah and those before him and the inhabitants of the overthrown cities persistently committed grave sins. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:10
فَعَصَوْا۟ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً
69:10
They defied their Lord's messenger, so He seized them with an ever-tightening grip. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:11
إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلْمَآءُ حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْ فِى ٱلْجَارِيَةِ
69:11
But We bore you away in the Ark, when the waters rose high, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:12
لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٌ وَٰعِيَةٌ
69:12
so that We might make it a reminder for you and so that attentive ears might retain it. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:13
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ
69:13
When a single blast is blown on the trumpet, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:14
وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَٰحِدَةً
69:14
and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and then crushed with a single blow, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:15
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
69:15
on that Day the Great Event will come to pass. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:16
وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِىَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ
69:16
And the sky will be rent asunder, for on that Day it will be so frail. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:17
وَٱلْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌ
69:17
The angels will appear by its sides and, on that Day, eight [angels] will bear your Lord's throne above them. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:18
يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ
69:18
On that Day you will be brought to judgement and none of your secrets will remain hidden. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:19
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقْرَءُوا۟ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ
69:19
Then he who is given his record in his right hand will exclaim, "Here is my record, read it. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:20
إِنِّى ظَنَنتُ أَنِّى مُلَـٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ
69:20
Surely, I knew that I should meet my reckoning," - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:21
فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ
69:21
so he will live in a state of Bliss - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:22
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
69:22
in a lofty garden, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:23
قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ
69:23
with clusters of fruit within easy reach. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:24
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَآ أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَيَّامِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ
69:24
We shall say to him, "Eat and drink joyfully as a reward for the good deeds you did in days gone by." - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:25
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ
69:25
But he who is given his record in his left hand will say, "If only I had never been given my Record - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:26
وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ
69:26
and knew nothing of my reckoning. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:27
يَـٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ
69:27
How I wish my death had ended all. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:28
مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّى مَالِيَهْ ۜ
69:28
My wealth has been of no use to me. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:29
هَلَكَ عَنِّى سُلْطَـٰنِيَهْ
69:29
I am bereft of power." - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:30
خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ
69:30
Seize him and fetter him, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:31
ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ
69:31
and then let him enter Hell. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:32
ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ
69:32
Then fasten him with a chain seventy cubits long: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:33
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
69:33
for he did not believe in Almighty God, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:34
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
69:34
nor did he feel any urge to feed the needy, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:35
فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَـٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌ
69:35
so today he has no friend here, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:36
وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ
69:36
and the only food he has is filth - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:37
لَّا يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَ
69:37
which no one will eat except the sinners. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:38
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ
69:38
But nay, I swear by all that you can see - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:39
وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ
69:39
as well as all that you cannot see: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:40
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ
69:40
most surely, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:41
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ
69:41
it is not the word of a poet -- how little you believe! -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:42
وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ
69:42
Nor is it the word of a soothsayer -- how little you reflect! - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:43
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
69:43
It is a revelation sent down by the Sustainer of the Universe: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:44
وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ
69:44
if he had invented any lies about Us, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:45
لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِٱلْيَمِينِ
69:45
We would indeed have seized him by his right hand - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:46
ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ
69:46
and would indeed have cut his life-vein, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:47
فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَـٰجِزِينَ
69:47
and none of you could have held Us off from him. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:48
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ
69:48
And surely it is an admonition to the God-fearing. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:49
وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ
69:49
We know very well that there are some among you who reject Our signs -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:50
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
69:50
it will be a source of bitter regret for those who deny the truth -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:51
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
69:51
it is the indubitable truth. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
69:52
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
69:52
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Almighty. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
