Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
                    بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
                
                
                    In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
                
            
                    70:1
                    سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:1
                    A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:2
                    لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:2
                    The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:3
                    مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:3
                    (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent.  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:4
                    تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:4
                    The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years:  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:5
                    فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:5
                    Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment).  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:6
                    إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:6
                    They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event):  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:7
                    وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:7
                    But We see it (quite) near.  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:8
                    يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:8
                    The Day that the sky will be like molten brass,  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:9
                    وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:9
                    And the mountains will be like wool,  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:10
                    وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:10
                    And no friend will ask after a friend,  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:11
                    يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:11
                    Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children,  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:12
                    وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:12
                    His wife and his brother,  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:13
                    وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:13
                    His kindred who sheltered him,  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:14
                    وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:14
                    And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him:  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:15
                    كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:15
                    By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:16
                    نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:16
                    Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:17
                    تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:17
                    Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right).  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:18
                    وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:18
                    And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)!  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:19
                    ۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:19
                    Truly man was created very impatient;-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:20
                    إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:20
                    Fretful when evil touches him;  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:21
                    وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:21
                    And niggardly when good reaches him;-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:22
                    إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:22
                    Not so those devoted to Prayer;-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:23
                    ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:23
                    Those who remain steadfast to their prayer;  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:24
                    وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:24
                    And those in whose wealth is a recognised right.  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:25
                    لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:25
                    For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking);  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:26
                    وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:26
                    And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment;  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:27
                    وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:27
                    And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:28
                    إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:28
                    For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:29
                    وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:29
                    And those who guard their chastity,  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:30
                    إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:30
                    Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed,  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:31
                    فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:31
                    But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:32
                    وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:32
                    And those who respect their trusts and covenants;  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:33
                    وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:33
                    And those who stand firm in their testimonies;  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:34
                    وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:34
                    And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:35
                    أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:35
                    Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss).  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:36
                    فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:36
                    Now what is the matter with the Unbelievers that they rush madly before thee-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:37
                    عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:37
                    From the right and from the left, in crowds?  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:38
                    أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:38
                    Does every man of them long to enter the Garden of Bliss?  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:39
                    كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:39
                    By no means! For We have created them out of the (base matter) they know!  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:40
                    فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:40
                    Now I do call to witness the Lord of all points in the East and the West that We can certainly-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:41
                    عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:41
                    Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan).  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:42
                    فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:42
                    So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:43
                    يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:43
                    The Day whereon they will issue from their sepulchres in sudden haste as if they were rushing to a goal-post (fixed for them),-  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:44
                    خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    70:44
                    Their eyes lowered in dejection,- ignominy covering them (all over)! such is the Day the which they are promised!  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
