بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

70:1 سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ

One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall

70:2 لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ
70:2
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it--

70:3 مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
70:3
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent.

70:4 تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
70:4
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years.

70:5 فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
70:5
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Therefore endure with a goodly patience.

70:6 إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا
70:6
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Surely they think it to be far off,

70:7 وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا
70:7
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And We see it nigh.

70:8 يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ
70:8
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper

70:9 وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ
70:9
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool

70:10 وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا
70:10
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And friend shall not ask of friend

70:11 يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ
70:11
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
(Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children,

70:12 وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
70:12
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And his wife and his brother

70:13 وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ
70:13
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter,

70:14 وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
70:14
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him.

70:15 كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
70:15
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire

70:16 نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ
70:16
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Dragging by the head,

70:17 تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
70:17
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth),

70:18 وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
70:18
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up.

70:19 ۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
70:19
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Surely man is created of a hasty temperament

70:20 إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا
70:20
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him

70:21 وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا
70:21
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And niggardly when good befalls him

70:22 إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
70:22
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Except those who pray,

70:23 ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ
70:23
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Those who are constant at their prayer

70:24 وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ
70:24
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion.

70:25 لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
70:25
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
For him who begs and for him who is denied (good)

70:26 وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
70:26
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And those who accept the truth of the judgment day

70:27 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
70:27
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord--

70:28 إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ
70:28
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of--

70:29 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ
70:29
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And those who guard their private parts,

70:30 إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
70:30
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed,

70:31 فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
70:31
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits--

70:32 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
70:32
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant

70:33 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ
70:33
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And those who are upright in their testimonies,

70:34 وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
70:34
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
And those who keep a guard on their prayer,

70:35 أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ
70:35
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Those shall be in gardens, honored.

70:36 فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
70:36
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
But what is the matter with those who disbelieve that they hasten on around you,

70:37 عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ

On the right hand and on the left, in sundry parties?

70:38 أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ
70:38
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Does every man of them desire that he should be made to enter the garden of bliss?

70:39 كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
70:39
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
By no means! Surely We have created them of what they know.

70:40 فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
70:40
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
But nay! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests that We are certainly able

70:41 عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
70:41
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
To bring instead (others) better than them, and We shall not be overcome.

70:42 فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
70:42
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Therefore leave them alone to go on with the false discourses and to sport until they come face to face with that day of theirs with which they are threatened;

70:43 يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ

Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
The day on which they shall come forth from their graves in haste, as if they were hastening on to a goal,

70:44 خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ
70:44
Mohammad Habib Shakir (English) :
Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the day which they were threatened with.
