85 Al-Burūj ٱلْبُرُوج

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
85:1 وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ
85:1

By oath of the heaven which contains the constellations.
85:2 وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ
85:2

And by oath of the Promised Day.
85:3 وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ
85:3
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And by oath of the day that is a witness and by oath of a day in which the people present themselves.
85:4 قُتِلَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ
85:4

Accursed be the People of the Ditch!
85:5 ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ
85:5

The people of the fuelled blazing fire.
85:6 إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ
85:6

When they were sitting at its edge.
85:7 وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ
85:7
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And they themselves are witnesses to what they were doing to the Muslims!
85:8 وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ
85:8
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And what did they dislike from the Muslims, except that the Muslims accepted faith in Allah the Most Honourable, the Most Praiseworthy?
85:9 ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ
85:9
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
To Him only belongs the kingship of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is a Witness over all things.
85:10 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ
85:10
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Indeed those who troubled the Muslim men and Muslim women, and then did not repent – for them is the punishment of hell, and for them is the punishment of fire.
85:11 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ
85:11
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Indeed those who believed and did good deeds – for them are Gardens beneath which rivers flow; this is the great success.
85:12 إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ
85:12
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Indeed the seizure of your Lord is very severe.
85:13 إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ
85:13
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Indeed it is He Who initiates and redoes.
85:14 وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ
85:14
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And He only is the Oft Forgiving, the Beloved of His bondmen.
85:15 ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ
85:15
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Master of the Honourable Throne.
85:16 فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ
85:16
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Always doing whatever He wills.
85:17 هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ
85:17
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
Did the story of the armies reach you?
85:18 فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ
85:18
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
(The armies of) Firaun and the tribe of Thamud.
85:19 بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍ
85:19
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
In fact the disbelievers are in denial.
85:20 وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ
85:20
Ahmed Raza Khan (English) :
And Allah is after them, has them surrounded.
85:21 بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌ مَّجِيدٌ
85:21

In fact it (what they deny) is the Noble Qur’an.
85:22 فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ
