بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
56:1
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
56:1
When the Imminent [Hour] befalls - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:2
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
56:2
—there is no denying that it will befall— - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:3
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
56:3
[it will be] lowering and exalting. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:4
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
56:4
When the earth is shaken violently, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:5
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
56:5
and the mountains are shattered into bits - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:6
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا
56:6
and become scattered dust, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:7
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً
56:7
you will be three groups: - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:8
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
56:8
The People of the Right Hand—and what are the People of the Right Hand?! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:9
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
56:9
And the People of the Left Hand—and what are the People of the Left Hand?! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:10
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
56:10
And the Foremost Ones are the foremost ones: - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:11
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
56:11
they are the ones brought near [to Allah], - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:12
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
56:12
[who will reside] in the gardens of bliss. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:13
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:13
A multitude from the former [generations] - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:14
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:14
and a few from the latter ones. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:15
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
56:15
On brocaded couches - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:16
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
56:16
reclining on them, face to face. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:17
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
56:17
They will be waited upon by immortal youths, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:18
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
56:18
with goblets and ewers and a cup of a clear wine, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:19
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
56:19
which causes them neither headache nor stupefaction, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:20
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
56:20
and such fruits as they prefer - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:21
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
56:21
and such flesh of fowls as they desire, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:22
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
56:22
and big-eyed houris - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:23
كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
56:23
like guarded pearls, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:24
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
56:24
a reward for what they used to do. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:25
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
56:25
They will not hear therein any vain talk or sinful speech, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:26
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا
56:26
but only the watchword, ‘Peace!’ ‘Peace!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:27
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:27
And the People of the Right Hand—what are the People of the Right Hand?! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:28
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
56:28
Amid thornless lote trees - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:29
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
56:29
and clustered spathes - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:30
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
56:30
and extended shade, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:31
وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ
56:31
and ever-flowing water - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:32
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
56:32
and abundant fruits, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:33
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
56:33
neither inaccessible, nor forbidden, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:34
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
56:34
and noble spouses. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:35
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً
56:35
We have created them with a special creation, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:36
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
56:36
and made them virgins, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:37
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
56:37
loving, of a like age, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:38
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:38
for the People of the Right Hand. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:39
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:39
A multitude from the former [generations] - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:40
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:40
and a multitude from the latter [ones]. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:41
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
56:41
And the People of the Left Hand—what are the People of the Left Hand?! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:42
فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
56:42
Amid infernal miasma and boiling water - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:43
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
56:43
and the shadow of a dense black smoke, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:44
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
56:44
neither cool nor beneficial. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:45
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
56:45
Indeed they had been affluent before this, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:46
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:46
and they used to persist in the great sin. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:47
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
56:47
And they used to say, ‘What! When we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we be resurrected?! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:48
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
56:48
And our forefathers too?!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:49
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:49
Say, ‘Indeed the former and latter generations - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:50
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
56:50
will all be gathered for the tryst of a known day. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:51
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
56:51
Then indeed, you, astray deniers, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:52
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
56:52
will surely eat from the Zaqqum tree - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:53
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
56:53
and stuff your bellies with it, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:54
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
56:54
and drink boiling water on top of it, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:55
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
56:55
drinking like thirsty camels.’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:56
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
56:56
Such will be the hospitality they receive on the Day of Retribution. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:57
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
56:57
We created you. Then why do you not acknowledge it? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:58
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
56:58
Have you considered the sperm that you emit? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:59
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
56:59
Is it you who create it, or are We the creator? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:60
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
56:60
We have ordained death among you, and We are not to be outmaneuvered - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:61
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
56:61
from replacing you with your likes and recreating you in [a realm] you do not know. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:62
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
56:62
Certainly you have known the first genesis, then why do you not take admonition? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:63
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
56:63
Have you considered what you sow? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:64
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
56:64
Is it you who make it grow, or are We the grower? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:65
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
56:65
If We wish, We turn it into chaff, whereat you are left stunned [saying to yourselves,] - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:66
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
56:66
‘Indeed we have suffered loss! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:67
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
56:67
No, we are deprived!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:68
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
56:68
Have you considered the water that you drink? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:69
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
56:69
Is it you who bring it down from the rain cloud, or is it We who bring [it] down? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:70
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
56:70
If We wish We can make it bitter. Then why do you not give thanks? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:71
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
56:71
Have you considered the fire that you kindle? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:72
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
56:72
Was it you who caused its tree to grow, or were We the grower? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:73
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
56:73
It was We who made it a reminder and a boon for the desert-dwellers. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:74
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:74
So celebrate the Name of your Lord, the All-supreme. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:75
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
56:75
I swear by the places where the stars set! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:76
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
56:76
And indeed it is a great oath, should you know. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:77
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ
56:77
This is indeed a noble Quran, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:78
فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
56:78
in a guarded Book - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:79
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
56:79
—no one touches it except the pure ones— - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:80
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
56:80
sent down gradually from the Lord of all the worlds. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:81
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
56:81
What! Do you take lightly this discourse? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
56:82
And make your denial of it your vocation? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
56:83
So when it reaches the throat [of the dying person], - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:84
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
56:84
and at that moment you are looking on [at his bedside] - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:85
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
56:85
—and We are nearer to him than you are, though you do not perceive— - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:86
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
56:86
then why do you not restore it, if you are not subject - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:87
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
56:87
[to Divine dispensation], if you are truthful? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:88
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
56:88
Then, if he be of those brought near, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:89
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
56:89
then ease, abundance, and a garden of bliss. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:90
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:90
And if he be of the People of the Right Hand, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:91
فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:91
then [he will be told,] ‘Peace be on you, from the People of the Right Hand!’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:92
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
56:92
But if he be of the impugners, the astray ones, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:93
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
56:93
then a treat of boiling water - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:94
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
56:94
and entry into hell. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:95
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
56:95
Indeed this is certain truth. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
56:96
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:96
So celebrate the Name of your Lord, the All-supreme! - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
