Wahiduddin Khan
                    بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
                
                
                    In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
                
            
                    54:1
                    ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:1
                    The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:2
                    وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:2
                    Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:3
                    وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:3
                    They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:4
                    وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:4
                    And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent --  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:5
                    حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:5
                    a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:6
                    فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:6
                    So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:7
                    خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:7
                    abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:8
                    مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:8
                    running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:9
                    ۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:9
                    The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:10
                    فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:10
                    And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:11
                    فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:11
                    Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:12
                    وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:12
                    and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:13
                    وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:13
                    And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:14
                    تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:14
                    running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:15
                    وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:15
                    And We left it for a sign. Is there any that will remember?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:16
                    فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:16
                    How then were My chastisement and My warnings?  - A. J. Arberry (English)

                    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:17
                    Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:18
                    كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:18

                    54:19
                    إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ

                    We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:20
                    تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:20
                    plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:21
                    فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:21

                    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

                    كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

                    فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:24
                    and said, 'What, shall we follow a mortal, one out of ourselves? Then indeed we should be in error and insanity!  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:25
                    أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:25
                    Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone among us? Nay, rather he is an impudent liar.'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:26
                    سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:26
                    'They shall surely know tomorrow who is the impudent liar.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:27
                    إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:27
                    They shall send the She-camel as a trial for them; so watch thou them and keep patience.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:28
                    وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:28
                    And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:29
                    فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:29
                    Then they called their comrade, and he took in hand, and hamstrung her.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:30
                    فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:30

                    إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:31
                    We loosed against them one Cry, and they were as the wattles of a pen-builder.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:32
                    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:32

                    54:33
                    كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:33

                    إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:34
                    We loosed against them a squall of pebbles except the folk of Lot; We delivered them at the dawn --  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:35
                    نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:35
                    a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:36
                    وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:36
                    He had warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warnings.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:37
                    وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:37
                    Even his guests they had solicited of him; so We obliterated their eyes, saying, 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:38
                    وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:38
                    In the morning early there came upon them a settled chastisement:  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:39
                    فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:39

                    وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ

                    54:41
                    وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:41

                    كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:42
                    They cried lies to Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with the seizing of One mighty, omnipotent.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:43
                    أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:43
                    What, are your unbelievers better than those? Or have you an immunity in the Scrolls?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:44
                    أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:44
                    Or do they say, 'We are a congregation that shall be succoured?'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:45
                    سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:45
                    Certainly the host shall be routed, and turn their backs.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:46
                    بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:46
                    Nay, but the Hour is their tryst, and the Hour is very calamitous and bitter.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:47
                    إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:47

                    54:48
                    يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:48

                    إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:49

                    54:50
                    وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:50

                    54:51
                    وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:51

                    54:52
                    وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:52

                    وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:53

                    54:54
                    إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:54
                    Surely the godfearing shall dwell amid gardens and a river  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:55
                    فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
                
                
                
                
                
                    54:55
