بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
71:1
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦٓ أَنْ أَنذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
71:1
We sent Noah to his people, saying, 'Warn thy people, ere there come on them a painful chastisement.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:2
قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
71:2
He said, 'O my people, I am unto you a clear warner, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:3
أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ
71:3
saying, "Serve God, and fear Him, and obey you me, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:4
يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
71:4
and He will forgive you your sins, and defer you to a stated term; God's term, when it comes, cannot be deferred, did you but know."' - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:5
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِى لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا
71:5
He said; 'My Lord, I have called my people by night and by day, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:6
فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَآءِىٓ إِلَّا فِرَارًا
71:6
but my calling has only increased them in flight. - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:7
وَإِنِّى كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوٓا۟ أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟ ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا۟ وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ ٱسْتِكْبَارًا
71:7
And whenever I called them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, and wrapped them in their garments, and persisted, and waxed very proud. - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:8
ثُمَّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا
71:8
Then indeed I called them openly; - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:9
ثُمَّ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَنتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا
71:9
then indeed I spoke publicly unto them, and I spoke unto them secretly, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:10
فَقُلْتُ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًا
71:10
and I said, "Ask you forgiveness of your Lord; surely He is ever All-forgiving, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:11
يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا
71:11
and He will loose heaven upon you in torrents - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:12
وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَـٰرًا
71:12
and will succour you with wealth and sons, and will appoint for you gardens, and will appoint for you rivers. - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:13
مَّا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا
71:13
What ails you, that you look not for majesty in God, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:14
وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا
71:14
seeing He created you by stages? - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:15
أَلَمْ تَرَوْا۟ كَيْفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا
71:15
Have you not regarded how God created seven heavens one upon another, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:16
وَجَعَلَ ٱلْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا
71:16
and set the moon therein for a light and the sun for a lamp? - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:17
وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا
71:17
And God caused you to grow out of the earth, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:18
ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا
71:18
then He shall return you into it, and bring you forth. - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:19
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا
71:19
And God has laid the earth for you as a carpet, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:20
لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟ مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا
71:20
that thereof you may thread ways, ravines." - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:21
قَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِى وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَن لَّمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارًا
71:21
Noah said, 'My Lord, they have rebelled against me, and followed him whose wealth and children increase him only in loss, - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:22
وَمَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا
71:22
and have devised a mighty device - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:23
وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا
71:23
and have said, "Do not leave your gods, and do not leave Wadd, nor Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq, neither Nasr." - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:24
وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا۟ كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَـٰلًا
71:24
And they have led many astray. Increase Thou not the evildoers save in error!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:25
مِّمَّا خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا۟ فَأُدْخِلُوا۟ نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا۟ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَنصَارًا
71:25
And because of their transgressions they were drowned, and admitted into a Fire, for they found not, apart from God, any to help them. - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:26
وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا
71:26
And Noah said, 'My Lord, leave not upon the earth of the unbelievers even one. - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:27
إِنَّكَ إِن تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا۟ عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا
71:27
Surely, if Thou leavest them, they will lead Thy servants astray, and will beget none but unbelieving libertines. - A. J. Arberry (English)
71:28
رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِىَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًۢا
71:28
My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whosoever enters my house as a believer, and the believers, men and women alike; and do Thou not increase the evildoers save in ruin!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
