بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

72:1 قُلْ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْءَانًا عَجَبًا
72:1
Talal Itani (English) :
Say, “It was revealed to me that a band of jinn listened in, and said, ‘We have heard a wondrous Quran.

72:2 يَهْدِىٓ إِلَى ٱلرُّشْدِ فَـَٔامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَآ أَحَدًا
72:2
Talal Itani (English) :
It guides to rectitude, so we have believed in it; and we will never associate anyone with our Lord.

72:3 وَأَنَّهُۥ تَعَـٰلَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا ٱتَّخَذَ صَـٰحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا
72:3
Talal Itani (English) :
And Exalted is the Grandeur of our Lord—He never had a mate, nor a child.

72:4 وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطًا
72:4
Talal Itani (English) :
But the fools among us used to say nonsense about God.

72:5 وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن تَقُولَ ٱلْإِنسُ وَٱلْجِنُّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا
72:5
Talal Itani (English) :
And we thought that humans and jinn would never utter lies about God.

72:6 وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا
72:6
Talal Itani (English) :
Some individual humans used to seek power through some individual jinn, but they only increased them in confusion.

72:7 وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا۟ كَمَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن لَّن يَبْعَثَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدًا
72:7
Talal Itani (English) :
They thought, as you thought, that God would never resurrect anyone.

72:8 وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ فَوَجَدْنَـٰهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا
72:8
Talal Itani (English) :
We probed the heaven, and found it filled with stern guards and projectiles.

72:9 وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَـٰعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ ٱلْـَٔانَ يَجِدْ لَهُۥ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا
72:9
Talal Itani (English) :
We used to take up positions to listen in; but whoever listens now finds a projectile in wait for him.

72:10 وَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِىٓ أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا
72:10
Talal Itani (English) :
We do not know whether ill is intended for those on earth, or if their Lord intends goodness for them.

72:11 وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَآئِقَ قِدَدًا
72:11
Talal Itani (English) :
Some of us are righteous, but some of us are less than that; we follow divergent paths.

72:12 وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن نُّعْجِزَ ٱللَّهَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَن نُّعْجِزَهُۥ هَرَبًا
72:12
Talal Itani (English) :
We realized that we cannot defeat God on earth, and that we cannot escape Him by fleeing.

72:13 وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلَا رَهَقًا
72:13
Talal Itani (English) :
And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. Whoever believes in his Lord fears neither loss, nor burden.

72:14 وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ ۖ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا۟ رَشَدًا
72:14
Talal Itani (English) :
Among us are those who are submitting, and among us are the compromisers. As for those who have submitted—it is they who pursue rectitude.

72:15 وَأَمَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا۟ لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا
72:15
Talal Itani (English) :
But as for the compromisers—they will be firewood for Hell.’”

72:16 وَأَلَّوِ ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَـٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقًا
72:16
Talal Itani (English) :
Had they kept true to the Path, We would have given them plenty water to drink.

72:17 لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا
72:17
Talal Itani (English) :
To test them with it. Whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will direct him to torment ever mounting.

72:18 وَأَنَّ ٱلْمَسَـٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدًا
72:18
Talal Itani (English) :
The places of worship are for God. So do not call, besides God, upon anyone else.

72:19 وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا۟ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا
72:19
Talal Itani (English) :
And when the servant of God got up calling on Him, they almost fell on him in a mass.

72:20 قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
72:20
Talal Itani (English) :
Say, “I pray only to my Lord, and I never associate anyone with Him.”

72:21 قُلْ إِنِّى لَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا رَشَدًا
72:21
Talal Itani (English) :
Say, “It is not in my power to harm you, nor to bring you to right conduct.”

72:22 قُلْ إِنِّى لَن يُجِيرَنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدٌ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلْتَحَدًا
72:22
Talal Itani (English) :
Say, “No one can protect me from God, and I will not find any refuge except with Him.

72:23 إِلَّا بَلَـٰغًا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِسَـٰلَـٰتِهِۦ ۚ وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا
72:23
Talal Itani (English) :
Except for a proclamation from God and His messages. He who defies God and His Messenger—for him is the Fire of Hell, in which they will dwell forever.”

72:24 حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَضْعَفُ نَاصِرًا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدًا
72:24
Talal Itani (English) :
Until, when they see what they were promised, they will know who is weaker in helpers, and fewer in numbers.

72:25 قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِىٓ أَقَرِيبٌ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُۥ رَبِّىٓ أَمَدًا
72:25
Talal Itani (English) :
Say, “I do not know whether what you are promised is near, or whether my Lord will extend it for a period.”

72:26 عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
72:26
Talal Itani (English) :
The Knower of the Invisible; He does not disclose His Invisible to anyone.

72:27 إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَسْلُكُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِۦ رَصَدًا
72:27
Talal Itani (English) :
Except to a Messenger of His choosing. He then dispatches guards before him and behind him.

72:28 لِّيَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا۟ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عَدَدًۢا
72:28
Talal Itani (English) :
That He may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord. He encompasses what they have, and has tallied everything by number.
