Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
                    بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
                
                
                    In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
                
            
                    72:1
                    قُلْ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْءَانًا عَجَبًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:1
                    Say: 'It has been revealed to me that a company of the jinn gave ear, then they said, "We have indeed heard a Koran wonderful,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:2
                    يَهْدِىٓ إِلَى ٱلرُّشْدِ فَـَٔامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَآ أَحَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:2
                    guiding to rectitude. We believe in it, and we will not associate with our Lord anyone.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:3
                    وَأَنَّهُۥ تَعَـٰلَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا ٱتَّخَذَ صَـٰحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:3
                    He -- exalted be our Lord's majesty! has not taken to Himself either consort or a son.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:4
                    وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:4
                    The fool among us spoke against God outrage,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:5
                    وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن تَقُولَ ٱلْإِنسُ وَٱلْجِنُّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:5
                    and we had thought that men and jinn would never speak against God a lie.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:6
                    وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:6
                    But there were certain men of mankind who would take refuge with certain men of the jinn, and they increased them in vileness,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:7
                    وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا۟ كَمَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن لَّن يَبْعَثَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:7
                    and they thought, even as you also thought, that God would never raise up anyone.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:8
                    وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ فَوَجَدْنَـٰهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:8
                    And we stretched towards heaven, but we found it filled with terrible guards and meteors.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:9
                    وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَـٰعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ ٱلْـَٔانَ يَجِدْ لَهُۥ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:9
                    We would sit there on seats to hear; but any listening now finds a meteor in wait for him.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:10
                    وَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِىٓ أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:10
                    And so we know not whether evil is intended for those in the earth, or whether their Lord intends for them rectitude.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:11
                    وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَآئِقَ قِدَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:11
                    And some of us are the righteous, and some of us are otherwise; we are sects differing.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:12
                    وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن نُّعْجِزَ ٱللَّهَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَن نُّعْجِزَهُۥ هَرَبًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:12
                    Indeed, we thought that we should never be able to frustrate God in the earth, neither be able to frustrate Him by flight.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:13
                    وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلَا رَهَقًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:13
                    When we heard the guidance, we believed in it; and whosoever believes in his Lord, he shall fear neither paltriness nor vileness.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:14
                    وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ ۖ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا۟ رَشَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:14
                    And some of us have surrendered, and some of us have deviated. Those who have surrendered sought rectitude;  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:15
                    وَأَمَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا۟ لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:15
                    but as for those who have deviated, they have become firewood for Gehenna!"'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:16
                    وَأَلَّوِ ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَـٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:16
                    Would they but go straight on the way, We would give them to drink of water copious,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:17
                    لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:17
                    that We might try them therein. And whosoever turns away from the Remembrance of his Lord, He will thrust him into chastisement rigorous.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:18
                    وَأَنَّ ٱلْمَسَـٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:18
                    The places of worship belong to God; so call not, along with God, upon anyone.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:19
                    وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا۟ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:19
                    When the servant of God stood calling on Him, they were wellnigh upon him in swarms.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:20
                    قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:20
                    Say: 'I call only upon my Lord, and I do not associate with Him anyone.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:21
                    قُلْ إِنِّى لَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا رَشَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:21
                    Say: 'Surely I possess no power over you, either for hurt or for rectitude.'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:22
                    قُلْ إِنِّى لَن يُجِيرَنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدٌ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلْتَحَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:22
                    Say: 'From God shall protect me not anyone, and I shall find, apart from Him, no refuge,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:23
                    إِلَّا بَلَـٰغًا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِسَـٰلَـٰتِهِۦ ۚ وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:23
                    excepting a Deliverance from God and His Messages. And whoso rebels against God and His messenger, for him there awaits the Fire of Gehenna; therein they shall dwell forever.'  - A. J.                     72:24
                    حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَضْعَفُ نَاصِرًا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:24
                    Until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and fewer in numbers.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:25
                    قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِىٓ أَقَرِيبٌ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُۥ رَبِّىٓ أَمَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:25
                    Say: 'I do not know whether that which you are promised is nigh, or whether my Lord will appoint for it a space;  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:26
                    عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:26
                    Knower He of the Unseen, and He discloses not His Unseen to anyone,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:27
                    إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَسْلُكُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِۦ رَصَدًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:27
                    save only to such a Messenger as He is well-pleased with; then He despatches before him and behind him watchers,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:28
                    لِّيَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا۟ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عَدَدًۢا
                
                
                
                
                
                    72:28
                    that He may know they have delivered the Messages of their Lord; and He encompasses all that is with them, and He has numbered everything in numbers.'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
