                    بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
                
                
                    In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
                
            
                    52:1
                    وَٱلطُّورِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:1

                    52:2
                    وَكِتَـٰبٍ مَّسْطُورٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:2
                    and a Book inscribed  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:3
                    فِى رَقٍّ مَّنشُورٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:3
                    in a parchment unrolled,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:4
                    وَٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْمَعْمُورِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:4
                    by the House inhabited  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:5
                    وَٱلسَّقْفِ ٱلْمَرْفُوعِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:5
                    and the roof uplifted  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:6
                    وَٱلْبَحْرِ ٱلْمَسْجُورِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:6

                    52:7
                    إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَٰقِعٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:7
                    surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall;  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:8
                    مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:8
                    there is none to avert it.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:9
                    يَوْمَ تَمُورُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ مَوْرًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:9
                    Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:10
                    وَتَسِيرُ ٱلْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:10
                    and the mountains are in motion,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:11
                    فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:11
                    woe that day unto those that cry lies,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:12
                    ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:12
                    such as play at plunging,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:13
                    يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:13
                    the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna:  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:14
                    هَـٰذِهِ ٱلنَّارُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:14
                    'This is the fire that you cried lies to!  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:15
                    أَفَسِحْرٌ هَـٰذَآ أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:15
                    What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:16
                    ٱصْلَوْهَا فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:16
                    Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:17
                    إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:17
                    Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:18
                    فَـٰكِهِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:18
                    rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:19
                    كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:19
                    'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:20
                    مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:20
                    Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:21
                    وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَـٰنٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَآ أَلَتْنَـٰهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:21
                    And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned.  - A.                     52:22
                    وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰهُم بِفَـٰكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:22
                    And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:23
                    يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَّا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:23
                    while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:24
                    ۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَّكْنُونٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:24
                    and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:25
                    وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:25
                    They advance one upon another, asking each other questions.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:26
                    قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِىٓ أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:26
                    They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:27
                    فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:27
                    and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind;  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:28
                    إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:28
                    we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:29
                    فَذَكِّرْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:29
                    Therefore remind! by thy Lord's blessing thou art not a soothsayer neither possessed.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:30
                    أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَيْبَ ٱلْمَنُونِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:30
                    Or do they say, 'He is a poet for whom we await Fate's uncertainty'?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:31
                    قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:31
                    Say: 'Await! I shall be awaiting with you.'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:32
                    أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَـٰمُهُم بِهَـٰذَآ ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:32
                    Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:33
                    أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:33
                    Or do they say, 'He has invented it?' Nay, but they do not believe.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:34
                    فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِحَدِيثٍ مِّثْلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِينَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:34
                    Then let them bring a discourse like it, if they speak truly.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:35
                    أَمْ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنْ غَيْرِ شَىْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:35
                    Or were they created out of nothing? Or are they the creators?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:36
                    أَمْ خَلَقُوا۟ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:36
                    Or did they create the heavens and earth? Nay, but they have not sure faith.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:37
                    أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:37
                    Or are thy Lord's treasuries in their keeping? Or are they the registrars?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:38
                    أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:38
                    Or have they a ladder whereon they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:39
                    أَمْ لَهُ ٱلْبَنَـٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:39
                    Or has He daughters, and they sons?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:40
                    أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:40
                    Or askest thou them for a wage, and so they are weighed down with debt?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:41
                    أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:41
                    Or is the Unseen in their keeping, and so they are writing it down?  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:42
                    أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْمَكِيدُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:42
                    Or desire they to outwit? The unbelievers, they are the outwitted.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:43
                    أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:43
                    Or have they a god, other than God? Glory be to God, above that which they associate!  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:44
                    وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كِسْفًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابٌ مَّرْكُومٌ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:44
                    Even if they saw lumps falling from heaven, they would say, 'A massed cloud!'  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:45
                    فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:45
                    Then leave them, till they encounter their day wherein they shall be thunderstruck,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:46
                    يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:46
                    the day when their guile shall avail them naught, and they shall not be helped.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:47
                    وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:47
                    And there surely awaits the evildoers a chastisement beyond even that, but most of them know it not.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:48
                    وَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:48
                    And be thou patient under the judgment of thy Lord; surely thou art before Our eyes. And proclaim the praise of thy Lord when thou arisest,  - A. J. Arberry (English)
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:49
                    وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَـٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ
                
                
                
                
                
                    52:49
                    and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars.  - A. J. Arberry (English)
