بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
23:1
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
23:1
Successful are the believers. - Talal Itani (English)
23:2
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى صَلَاتِهِمْ خَـٰشِعُونَ
23:2
Those who are humble in their prayers. - Talal Itani (English)
23:3
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ ٱللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ
23:3
Those who avoid nonsense. - Talal Itani (English)
23:4
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَوٰةِ فَـٰعِلُونَ
23:4
Those who work for charity. - Talal Itani (English)
23:5
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ
23:5
Those who safeguard their chastity. - Talal Itani (English)
23:6
إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
23:6
Except from their spouses, or their dependents—for then they are free from blame. - Talal Itani (English)
23:7
فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
23:7
But whoever seeks anything beyond that—these are the transgressors. - Talal Itani (English)
23:8
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
23:8
Those who are faithful to their trusts and pledges. - Talal Itani (English)
23:9
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَٰتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
23:9
Those who safeguard their prayers. - Talal Itani (English)
23:10
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ
23:10
These are the inheritors. - Talal Itani (English)
23:11
ٱلَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ ٱلْفِرْدَوْسَ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ
23:11
Who will inherit Paradise, wherein they will dwell forever. - Talal Itani (English)
23:12
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن سُلَـٰلَةٍ مِّن طِينٍ
23:12
We created man from an extract of clay. - Talal Itani (English)
23:13
ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ نُطْفَةً فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ
23:13
Then We made him a seed, in a secure repository. - Talal Itani (English)
23:14
ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا ٱلنُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْمُضْغَةَ عِظَـٰمًا فَكَسَوْنَا ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ لَحْمًا ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُ خَلْقًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ
23:14
Then We developed the seed into a clot. Then We developed the clot into a lump. Then We developed the lump into bones. Then We clothed the bones with flesh. Then We produced it into another creature. Most Blessed is God, the Best of Creators. - Talal Itani (English)
23:15
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَيِّتُونَ
23:15
Then, after that, you will die. - Talal Itani (English)
23:16
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ تُبْعَثُونَ
23:16
Then, on the Day of Resurrection, you will be resurrected. - Talal Itani (English)
23:17
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعَ طَرَآئِقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ ٱلْخَلْقِ غَـٰفِلِينَ
23:17
We created above you seven pathways, and We are never heedless of the creation. - Talal Itani (English)
23:18
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۢ بِقَدَرٍ فَأَسْكَنَّـٰهُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابٍۭ بِهِۦ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
23:18
And We sent down water from the sky in proper quantity, and settled it in the ground, and We are Able to take it away. - Talal Itani (English)
23:19
فَأَنشَأْنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتٍ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَـٰبٍ لَّكُمْ فِيهَا فَوَٰكِهُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ
23:19
With it We produce for you gardens of palms and vines, yielding abundant fruit for you to eat. - Talal Itani (English)
23:20
وَشَجَرَةً تَخْرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَيْنَآءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِّلْـَٔاكِلِينَ
23:20
And a tree springing out of Mount Sinai, producing oil, and seasoning for those who eat. - Talal Itani (English)
23:21
وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ لَعِبْرَةً ۖ نُّسْقِيكُم مِّمَّا فِى بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ
23:21
And there is a lesson for you in livestock: We give you to drink from what is in their bellies, and you have many benefits in them, and from them you eat. - Talal Itani (English)
23:22
وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ
23:22
And on them, and on the ships, you are transported. - Talal Itani (English)
23:23
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فَقَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
23:23
We sent Noah to his people. He said, “O my people, worship God, you have no deity other than Him. Will you not take heed?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:24
فَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً مَّا سَمِعْنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِىٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
23:24
But the notables of his people, who disbelieved, said, “This is nothing but a human like you, who wants to gain superiority over you. Had God willed, He would have sent down angels. We never heard of this from our forefathers of old. - Talal Itani (English)
23:25
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
23:25
He is nothing but a man possessed. Just ignore him for a while.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:26
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ
23:26
He said, “My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:27
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ ٱصْنَعِ ٱلْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ ۙ فَٱسْلُكْ فِيهَا مِن كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ ٱثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُخَـٰطِبْنِى فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّهُم مُّغْرَقُونَ
23:27
So We inspired him: “Build the Ark under Our observation and by Our inspiration. And when Our decree comes to pass, and the oven boils over, load into it two pairs of every kind, together with your family, except those of them against whom the word has already been pronounced. And do not speak to me concerning those who did wrong; for they are to be drowned.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:28
فَإِذَا ٱسْتَوَيْتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
23:28
Then, when you and those with you are settled in the Ark, say, “Praise be to God, who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:29
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلْنِى مُنزَلًا مُّبَارَكًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ
23:29
And say, “My Lord, land me with a blessed landing, as you are the best of transporters.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:30
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ
23:30
Surely in that are signs. We are always testing. - Talal Itani (English)
23:31
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا ءَاخَرِينَ
23:31
Then, after them, We established another generation. - Talal Itani (English)
23:32
فَأَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
23:32
And We sent among them a messenger from themselves: “Serve God. You have no god other than Him. Will you not be cautious?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:33
وَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَآءِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَأَتْرَفْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا مَا هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ
23:33
But the dignitaries of his people, those who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and We had indulged them in the present life, said, “This is nothing but a human like you; he eats what you eat, and he drinks what you drink. - Talal Itani (English)
23:34
وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُم بَشَرًا مِّثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ
23:34
If you obey a human being like yourselves, then you will be losers. - Talal Itani (English)
23:35
أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنتُمْ تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخْرَجُونَ
23:35
Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones, you will be brought out? - Talal Itani (English)
23:36
۞ هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ
23:36
Farfetched, farfetched is what you are promised. - Talal Itani (English)
23:37
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ
23:37
There is nothing but our life in this world. We die, and we live, and we are not resurrected. - Talal Itani (English)
23:38
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
23:38
He is nothing but a man, making up lies about God. We have no faith in him.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:39
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ
23:39
He said, “My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:40
قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ نَـٰدِمِينَ
23:40
He said, “Soon they will be filled with regret.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:41
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ غُثَآءً ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِّلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
23:41
Then the Blast struck them, justifiably, and We turned them into scum. So away with the wicked people. - Talal Itani (English)
23:42
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِينَ
23:42
Then, after them, We raised other generations. - Talal Itani (English)
23:43
مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ
23:43
No nation can advance its time, nor can they postpone it. - Talal Itani (English)
23:44
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَا ۖ كُلَّ مَا جَآءَ أُمَّةً رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُم بَعْضًا وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِّقَوْمٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ
23:44
Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time a messenger came to his community, they called him a liar. So We made them follow one another, and made them history. So away with a people who do not believe. - Talal Itani (English)
23:45
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ
23:45
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron, with Our signs and a clear authority. - Talal Itani (English)
23:46
إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا عَالِينَ
23:46
To Pharaoh and his nobles, but they turned arrogant. They were oppressive people. - Talal Itani (English)
23:47
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَـٰبِدُونَ
23:47
They said, “Are we to believe in two mortals like us, and their people are our slaves?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:48
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْلَكِينَ
23:48
So they called them liars, and thus were among those destroyed. - Talal Itani (English)
23:49
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ
23:49
And We gave Moses the Scripture, that they may be guided. - Talal Itani (English)
23:50
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥٓ ءَايَةً وَءَاوَيْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَىٰ رَبْوَةٍ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍ وَمَعِينٍ
23:50
And We made Mary’s son and his mother a sign, and We sheltered them on high ground with security and flowing springs. - Talal Itani (English)
23:51
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ وَٱعْمَلُوا۟ صَـٰلِحًا ۖ إِنِّى بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ
23:51
O messengers, eat of the good things, and act with integrity. I am aware of what you do. - Talal Itani (English)
23:52
وَإِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمْ فَٱتَّقُونِ
23:52
This nation of yours is one nation, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. - Talal Itani (English)
23:53
فَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ زُبُرًا ۖ كُلُّ حِزْبٍۭ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ
23:53
But they tore themselves into sects; each party happy with what they have. - Talal Itani (English)
23:54
فَذَرْهُمْ فِى غَمْرَتِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
23:54
So leave them in their bewilderment until a time. - Talal Itani (English)
23:55
أَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالٍ وَبَنِينَ
23:55
Do they assume that, in furnishing them with wealth and children. - Talal Itani (English)
23:56
نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ ۚ بَل لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ
23:56
We race to give them the good things? In fact, they have no idea. - Talal Itani (English)
23:57
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
23:57
Those who, from awe of their Lord, are fearful. - Talal Itani (English)
23:58
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ
23:58
And those who believe in their Lord’s Verses. - Talal Itani (English)
23:59
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِرَبِّهِمْ لَا يُشْرِكُونَ
23:59
And those who associate no partners with their Lord. - Talal Itani (English)
23:60
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَآ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَٰجِعُونَ
23:60
And those who give what they give, while their hearts quake, knowing that to their Lord they will return. - Talal Itani (English)
23:61
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ وَهُمْ لَهَا سَـٰبِقُونَ
23:61
It is they who race towards goodness. It is they who will reach it first. - Talal Itani (English)
23:62
وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۖ وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَـٰبٌ يَنطِقُ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ
23:62
We never burden any soul beyond its capacity. And with Us is a record that tells the truth, and they will not be wronged. - Talal Itani (English)
23:63
بَلْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْمَـٰلٌ مِّن دُونِ ذَٰلِكَ هُمْ لَهَا عَـٰمِلُونَ
23:63
But their hearts are puzzled because of this; and they have deeds that do not conform to this, which they continue to perpetrate. - Talal Itani (English)
23:64
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِيهِم بِٱلْعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجْـَٔرُونَ
23:64
Until, when We seize the decadent among them with torment, they begin to groan. - Talal Itani (English)
23:65
لَا تَجْـَٔرُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ
23:65
Do not groan today. You will receive no help from Us. - Talal Itani (English)
23:66
قَدْ كَانَتْ ءَايَـٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ تَنكِصُونَ
23:66
My Verses were recited to you, but you turned back on your heels. - Talal Itani (English)
23:67
مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ بِهِۦ سَـٰمِرًا تَهْجُرُونَ
23:67
Arrogant towards it—talked nonsense about it—disregarded it. - Talal Itani (English)
23:68
أَفَلَمْ يَدَّبَّرُوا۟ ٱلْقَوْلَ أَمْ جَآءَهُم مَّا لَمْ يَأْتِ ءَابَآءَهُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
23:68
Have they not pondered the Word? Or has there come to them what came not to their forefathers of old? - Talal Itani (English)
23:69
أَمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا۟ رَسُولَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ
23:69
Or is it that they did not recognize their messenger, so they are denying him? - Talal Itani (English)
23:70
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌۢ ۚ بَلْ جَآءَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ
23:70
Or do they say, “He is possessed?” In fact, he brought them the truth, but most of them hate the truth. - Talal Itani (English)
23:71
وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْحَقُّ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ بَلْ أَتَيْنَـٰهُم بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَن ذِكْرِهِم مُّعْرِضُونَ
23:71
If the truth conformed to their desires, the heavens, the earth, and everyone in them would have gone to ruin. In fact, We have given them their message, but they keep avoiding their message. - Talal Itani (English)
23:72
أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ خَرْجًا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ
23:72
Or are you asking them for a payment? The revenue from your Lord is better, and He is the Best of providers. - Talal Itani (English)
23:73
وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
23:73
You are inviting them to a straight path. - Talal Itani (English)
23:74
وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ لَنَـٰكِبُونَ
23:74
But those who do not believe in the Hereafter are swerving from the path. - Talal Itani (English)
23:75
۞ وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَـٰهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرٍّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِى طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
23:75
Even if We had mercy on them, and relieved their problems, they would still blindly persist in their defiance. - Talal Itani (English)
23:76
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
23:76
We have already gripped them with suffering, but they did not surrender to their Lord, nor did they humble themselves. - Talal Itani (English)
23:77
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا ذَا عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ
23:77
Until, when We have opened before them a gate of intense agony, at once they will despair. - Talal Itani (English)
23:78
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ
23:78
It is He who produced for you the hearing, and the eyesight, and the feelings. But little gratitude you show. - Talal Itani (English)
23:79
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى ذَرَأَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ
23:79
And it is He who multiplied you on earth, and to Him you will be gathered. - Talal Itani (English)
23:80
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ وَلَهُ ٱخْتِلَـٰفُ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
23:80
And it is He who gives life and brings death, and to Him is the alternation of night and day. Do you not understand? - Talal Itani (English)
23:81
بَلْ قَالُوا۟ مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
23:81
But they say the like of what the ancients said. - Talal Itani (English)
23:82
قَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
23:82
They say, “After we have died, and become dust and bones, will we be resurrected? - Talal Itani (English)
23:83
لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَءَابَآؤُنَا هَـٰذَا مِن قَبْلُ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
23:83
We were promised this before—we and our ancestors—these are nothing but legends of the ancients.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:84
قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
23:84
Say, “To whom does the earth belong, and everyone in it, if you happen to know?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:85
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
23:85
They will say, “To God.” Say, “Will you not reflect?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:86
قُلْ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ ٱلسَّبْعِ وَرَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
23:86
Say, “Who is the Lord of the seven heavens, and Lord of the Splendid Throne?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:87
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
23:87
They will say, “To God.” Say, “Will you not become righteous?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:88
قُلْ مَنۢ بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ يُجِيرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
23:88
Say, “In whose hand is the dominion of all things, and He protects and cannot be protected from, if you happen to know?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:89
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسْحَرُونَ
23:89
They will say, “To God.” Say, “Then are you bewitched?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:90
بَلْ أَتَيْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ
23:90
In fact, We have given them the truth, and they are liars. - Talal Itani (English)
23:91
مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنْ إِلَـٰهٍ ۚ إِذًا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَـٰهٍۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
23:91
God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. - Talal Itani (English)
23:92
عَـٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
23:92
The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. - Talal Itani (English)
23:93
قُل رَّبِّ إِمَّا تُرِيَنِّى مَا يُوعَدُونَ
23:93
Say, “My Lord, if You would show me what they are promised. - Talal Itani (English)
23:94
رَبِّ فَلَا تَجْعَلْنِى فِى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
23:94
My Lord, do not place me among the wicked people.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:95
وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّرِيَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمْ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
23:95
We are surely Able to show you what We promise them. - Talal Itani (English)
23:96
ٱدْفَعْ بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ ۚ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ
23:96
Repel evil by what is better. We are aware of what they describe. - Talal Itani (English)
23:97
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَٰتِ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ
23:97
And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge with You from the urgings of the devils. - Talal Itani (English)
23:98
وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحْضُرُونِ
23:98
And I seek refuge with You, my Lord, lest they become present.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:99
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرْجِعُونِ
23:99
Until, when death comes to one of them, he says, “My Lord, send me back. - Talal Itani (English)
23:100
لَعَلِّىٓ أَعْمَلُ صَـٰلِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ ۚ كَلَّآ ۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَآئِلُهَا ۖ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِم بَرْزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
23:100
That I may do right in what I have neglected.” By no means! It is just a word that he utters. And behind them is a barrier, until the Day they are resurrected. - Talal Itani (English)
23:101
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَلَآ أَنسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
23:101
When the Horn is blown, no relations between them will exist on that Day, and they will not ask after one another. - Talal Itani (English)
23:102
فَمَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
23:102
Those whose scales are heavy—those are the successful. - Talal Itani (English)
23:103
وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ فِى جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ
23:103
But those whose scales are light—those are they who have lost their souls; in Hell they will dwell forever. - Talal Itani (English)
23:104
تَلْفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَهُمْ فِيهَا كَـٰلِحُونَ
23:104
The Fire lashes their faces, and therein they grimace. - Talal Itani (English)
23:105
أَلَمْ تَكُنْ ءَايَـٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ
23:105
“Were not My revelations recited to you, and you kept on rejecting them?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:106
قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوْمًا ضَآلِّينَ
23:106
They will say, “Our Lord, our wretchedness prevailed over us, and we were a people astray. - Talal Itani (English)
23:107
رَبَّنَآ أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَـٰلِمُونَ
23:107
Our Lord! Bring us out of this. If we ever returned, we would truly be evil.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:108
قَالَ ٱخْسَـُٔوا۟ فِيهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ
23:108
He will say, “Be despised therein, and do not speak to Me. - Talal Itani (English)
23:109
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْ عِبَادِى يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
23:109
There was a group of My servants who would say, `Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us, and have mercy on us; You are the Best of the merciful.' - Talal Itani (English)
23:110
فَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا حَتَّىٰٓ أَنسَوْكُمْ ذِكْرِى وَكُنتُم مِّنْهُمْ تَضْحَكُونَ
23:110
But you made then a target of ridicule, until they made you forget My remembrance; and you used to laugh at them. - Talal Itani (English)
23:111
إِنِّى جَزَيْتُهُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ
23:111
Today, I have rewarded them for their endurance. They are the ones who are the triumphant.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:112
قَـٰلَ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ عَدَدَ سِنِينَ
23:112
He will say, “How many years did you remain on earth?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:113
قَالُوا۟ لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ فَسْـَٔلِ ٱلْعَآدِّينَ
23:113
They will say, “We remained a day, or part of a day; but ask those who keep count.” - Talal Itani (English)
23:114
قَـٰلَ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ۖ لَّوْ أَنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
23:114
He will say, “You remained only for a little while, if you only knew. - Talal Itani (English)
23:115
أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ
23:115
Did you think that We created you in vain, and that to Us you will not be returned?” - Talal Itani (English)
23:116
فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْكَرِيمِ
23:116
So Exalted is God, the Ruler, the Real. There is no god except He, the Lord of the Noble Throne. - Talal Itani (English)
23:117
وَمَن يَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرْهَـٰنَ لَهُۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
23:117
Whoever invokes another god besides God—he has no proof thereof—his reckoning rests with his Lord. The disbelievers will not succeed. - Talal Itani (English)
23:118
وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ وَٱرْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
23:118
And say, “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of the merciful.” - Talal Itani (English)
