بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
72:1
قُلْ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْءَانًا عَجَبًا
72:1
Say, "It has been revealed to me that a band of the jinn listened [to the Quran] and they said, "We have heard a really wonderful recital, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:2
يَهْدِىٓ إِلَى ٱلرُّشْدِ فَـَٔامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَآ أَحَدًا
72:2
which guides to the right path; so we have believed in it and we will not associate anyone with our Lord, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:3
وَأَنَّهُۥ تَعَـٰلَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا ٱتَّخَذَ صَـٰحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا
72:3
and exalted is the majesty of our Lord, He has taken neither a wife nor a son. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:4
وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطًا
72:4
And [now we know] that the foolish among us have been saying outrageous things about God. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:5
وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن تَقُولَ ٱلْإِنسُ وَٱلْجِنُّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا
72:5
We had supposed that men and jinn would never utter a lie against God. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:6
وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا
72:6
Some men used to seek refuge with the jinn in the past, but that only increased their insolence. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:7
وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا۟ كَمَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن لَّن يَبْعَثَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدًا
72:7
They thought, as you did, that God would never raise up anyone from the dead. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:8
وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ فَوَجَدْنَـٰهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا
72:8
We sought to reach heaven, but found it filled with strong guards and flames -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:9
وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَـٰعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ ٱلْـَٔانَ يَجِدْ لَهُۥ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا
72:9
we used to take up a position to listen, but whoever listens now finds a flaming fire lying in wait for him -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:10
وَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِىٓ أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا
72:10
we cannot tell if this bodes evil to those who dwell on earth or whether their Lord intends to guide them. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:11
وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَآئِقَ قِدَدًا
72:11
Some of us are righteous, while others are not; we follow divergent paths. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:12
وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن نُّعْجِزَ ٱللَّهَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَن نُّعْجِزَهُۥ هَرَبًا
72:12
We have realized that we could never thwart God on earth and that we would never be able to thwart Him by flight. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:13
وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلَا رَهَقًا
72:13
When we heard the call to guidance, we believed in it. He who believes in his Lord has no fear of loss or of injustice. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:14
وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ ۖ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا۟ رَشَدًا
72:14
Some of us are obedient while others are wrongdoers; it is the obedient who have found the right path, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:15
وَأَمَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا۟ لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا
72:15
but those who are wrongdoers will become the fuel of Hell." - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:16
وَأَلَّوِ ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَـٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقًا
72:16
If they had followed the right path, We would have provided them with abundant rain -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:17
لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا
72:17
so that We may test them by it -- whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord shall be sternly punished. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:18
وَأَنَّ ٱلْمَسَـٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدًا
72:18
The mosques are for God's worship -- so do not invoke anyone else along with God -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:19
وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا۟ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا
72:19
when God's servant stood up to pray to Him, they pressed close to him in great numbers, almost stifling him. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:20
قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
72:20
Say, "I call only upon my Lord and do not associate anyone else with Him." - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:21
قُلْ إِنِّى لَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا رَشَدًا
72:21
Say, "It is not in my power to cause you either harm or good?" - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:22
قُلْ إِنِّى لَن يُجِيرَنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدٌ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلْتَحَدًا
72:22
Say, "Surely no one can protect me against God, nor can I find besides Him any place of refuge. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:23
إِلَّا بَلَـٰغًا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِسَـٰلَـٰتِهِۦ ۚ وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا
72:23
My duty is only to convey that which I receive from Him and His messages." For those who disobey God and His Messenger there is the fire of hell, wherein they will abide forever. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:24
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَضْعَفُ نَاصِرًا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدًا
72:24
When they are confronted by what they have been promised, they will realize who is weaker in helpers and fewer in numbers. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:25
قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِىٓ أَقَرِيبٌ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُۥ رَبِّىٓ أَمَدًا
72:25
Say, "I do not know whether what you are promised is imminent, or whether my Lord has set for it a far-off day. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:26
عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
72:26
He alone has knowledge of what is hidden. He reveals this to none, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:27
إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَسْلُكُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِۦ رَصَدًا
72:27
except the messenger whom He has chosen. He sends down guardians who walk before them and behind them, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
72:28
لِّيَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا۟ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عَدَدًۢا
72:28
so that He may know that the messengers have delivered the messages of their Lord. He encompasses all that is with them and He keeps count of all things. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
